Sony Confirms New PlayStation State of Play for This Week

Sony Confirms New PlayStation State of Play for This Week

Following plenty of rumors over the past couple of weeks, Sony has finally confirmed that a new PlayStation State of Play is arriving this week and will focus mainly on news from first party studios. In terms of first-party games, 2026 remains wide open for PlayStation fans, with only games like Saros, MLB: The Show 26, and even Marathon, considering Bungie is owned by Sony, being locked in for early 2026 launches. Fans are curious to know what else Sony has coming, especially towards the back half of the year.

Rumors of a new PlayStation State of Play happening in February have been swirling for weeks now. Insider NateTheHate responded to a fan over social media asking if a State of Play could be happening in February, to which Nate confirmed that it would be the case. Unfortunately, no other details were given, leaving fans to speculate as to what kind of show it could be or the games that could be featured. As it turns out, the rumors were, in fact, true after all.

Marvel’s Wolverine Release Date Potentially Leaked Via PlayStation Store

Some newly uncovered information on the PlayStation Store may reveal the release date for Marvel’s Wolverine, and it’s coming sooner than you think.

In a new blog post, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Tim Turi confirmed that the next PlayStation State of Play is kicking off in a few days on Thursday, February 12, 2026. Unlike the previous one, a State of Play that focused on Japanese studios, this one is focused on highlighting “eye-catching” third-party and indie titles coming to the PS5, while also giving fans the latest news on what PlayStation Studios teams have been working on. The show will also run for over 60 minutes, so there should be plenty of announcements and news to share.

Comments on the social media post seem to have fans excited both about the length of the showcase being over an hour, and the presence of first party announcements. While Sony hasn’t teased or confirmed any games that will be there, it’s fair to say that they could use the time to highlight Marathon and Saros again with their release dates rapidly approaching, and both games expected to help drive revenue early in 2026. There’s also a bit of debate whether Insomniac’s Wolverine will make an appearance, with the game expected to launch later in the year, though the developer has previously indicated more news would be shared in the Spring.

Fan expectations also seem to be set on Ghost of Yotei showing up in some capacity. In fact, Ghost of Yotei just reached a massive sales milestone, with Sony’s CFO announcing that the game “exceeded the sales of the previous title in the same period of time and significantly contributed to the financial results of the quarter.” It might be another big year for Sucker Punch as the developer plans to release the free co-op Legends mode into the game, with the State of Play potentially being a good place to release a trailer.

God of War has also been at the center of plenty of rumors, so it’s possible that Sony Santa Monica could use the showcase to potentially tease where the franchise is going. Another likely reveal could come from Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, the Arc System Works developed fighter that is currently set for a 2026 release date. Perhaps Sony and Arcsys could reveal new content in the game like characters and stages. There’s also a possibility that Naughty Dog uses the show to possibly showcase another trailer for its anticipated upcoming game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

Despite the upcoming State of Play, Sony hasn’t been shy about revealing new games outside this popular format. Seemingly out of the blue, Guerrilla Games revealed its multiplayer-focused Horizon game. Horizon Hunters Gathering seems to be early in development, but the game places a greater focus on 3-player cooperative gameplay with a colorful and stylized visual style. Despite gameplay and graphical differences to the mainline games, Guerrilla confirmed that the narrative and characters are “fully canon” to the wider Horizon universe.
