Square Enix Officially Reveals New Changes Coming to Final Fantasy 7 Revelation

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation expands the world players explore in FF7 Rebirth, but they won’t find familiar areas the exact same way as before. Indeed, while new areas of the world are perhaps the most exciting, these changes coming to Final Fantasy 7 Revelation are important for the overall quality of life for the game.

That’s not to say there aren’t other important changes, such as Final Fantasy 7 Revelation‘s new FITs system, which is akin to a classic Jobs system. Each Final Fantasy 7 Revelation character has 4 Fits, unique outfits, that give new movesets and abilities akin to classic Final Fantasy classes. For example, one of Cloud’s Fits is a Warrior and one of Tifa’s is a Black Mage, but fans will need to wait and see what the other fits.

Square Enix Issues New Official Statement on Final Fantasy 7 Revelation’s Open World

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation game director Naoki Hamaguchi shares his thoughts about the upcoming game’s vast open-world setting.

Black Materia Changes the Open World of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation

During a recent interview with Express, FF7 Revelation director Naoki Hamaguchi explained that familiar locations from Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth obviously return, but will be changed, to make them feel fresh. “At quite an early point in the story of Revelation, the Black Materia takes effect and Meteor appears in the sky, and this causes the ground and the earth to change, so there will be changes to terrain in some of these previous places,” says Hamaguchi. Practically speaking, this was to avoid exploring the same locations becoming a little boring, but the Meteor in the Sky, the unease around the Weapons, and of course, changes and happenstance to the locals all make these areas more inviting. As Hamaguchi continued,

“I think there are three points there. The terrain will be different, there’ll be new ways of exploring the area, and there’ll also be a lot of new content. Hopefully, I think that should give it a completely different feel to what you were able to explore in Rebirth.”

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation players will still be able to perform mercenary quests in the area, but they shouldn’t simply expect to retread well-worn ground. One of the new methods of exploration, mentioned by Hamaguchi, includes dropping in via the Final Fantasy 7 airship Highwind, giving fans a little more control over where they pop up. Not to mention, facing Final Fantasy 7 Revelation‘s Weapons are another motivation to explore these areas.

Right now, fans can only dream about exploring these areas, but hopefully that dream becomes reality sooner rather than later. Final Fantasy 7 Revelation has a Spring 2027 release window right now, but if fans are lucky, perhaps Square Enix will narrow that down later this year before 2027 gets here.
