Star Wars Eclipse Reportedly Still ‘Years Off From Completion’

An anonymous inside source claims Star Wars Eclipse likely won’t release until years down the line. The Star Wars franchise has quite a few games in the pipeline, though many of them remain something of a mystery, and Quantic Dream’s narrative-driven action-adventure is no different. There hasn’t been much official news on Star Wars Eclipse in a while, and that may be because development has slowed to a crawl.

The Heavy Rain studio first announced Star Wars Eclipse at the 2021 Game Awards, and there hasn’t been much movement since. At the time, it was rumored that the game had already been in development for over a year, though Quantic Dream did not confirm this. It also did not offer any release date, and now, more than four years later, that reveal trailer is still the only look fans have gotten at Star Wars Eclipse, and the developer has only offered intermittent reassurances that it’s still in the works in the time that has followed.

“That’s All I Can Say” Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake Gets New Update 5 Years Later

The Star Wars game returns to the conversation with a fresh update that offers a brief look at a project that fans continue to watch closely.

Star Wars Eclipse Has Reportedly Made “Very Little Progress Over Months”

According to anonymous sources who spoke with Insider Gaming, Star Wars Eclipse “is still looking to be years off from completion.” That statement reportedly came in December 2025, and another source told the publication that development has made little progress in recent months. Supposedly, much of the game is already finished, but taking things across the finish line has proven difficult. Given these comments, it seems the previous rumor that Star Wars Eclipse is targeting a 2026 release date is off the table, and a late 2027 or 2028 release is more likely, and it could possibly take longer than that.

Chinese gaming giant NetEase acquired Quantic Dream after the studio had unveiled Star Wars Eclipse, and it’s possible complications from the acquisition have shaken up development. Alternatively, it could be something as simple as development hitting a wall where teams are uncertain how to proceed to make the game what they want it to be. With no specifics to go on, it’s difficult to say what exactly the case is. In early 2025, Quantic Dream reassured fans that Star Wars Eclipse was not affected by NetEase layoffs, but apart from that, there has been little to no official news on how things are going.

Insider Gaming’s source claims Quantic Dream inquired about growing its team to help finish Eclipse sooner, but NetEase reportedly did not want to invest in expansion at the time. After the October 2025 Spellcasters Chronicles reveal, the company is waiting to see how that title fares financially to potentially bring in additional revenue for Eclipse‘s development, the source goes on to say. However, studio founder David Cage has said Star Wars Eclipse is unaffected by Spellcasters Chronicles, so it’s unclear how one game may impact the other.

Without any official details, it’s hard to make any firm guesses about how development will go from here, but things seem a little shaky at the moment. Back in 2024, Star Wars Eclipse lost its lead writer, too, so there may be trouble behind the curtain. At the same time, current fears and worries may be misplaced. Fans won’t know for sure until they hear more from Quantic Dream itself.
