To celebrate ten years of Stardew Valley, creator Eric Barone (ConcernedApe) has announced two new marriage candidates and while one of them makes perfect sense … Well, we’re a bit confused about the other.
As revealed during ConcernedApe’s stream, Stardew Valley’s 1.7 update will allow players to romance both Sandy and Clint. And to be clear, I get Sandy. Sandy is great! Clint, on the other hand, is a choice.
As the local blacksmith, Clint is perhaps one of the NPCs you interact with the most in Stardew Valley. As such, some Stardew fans have been eager to learn more about him and perhaps even save him from his chronically single status, which they now can do. If they want to. For some reason.
I suppose that, as a woman, Clint has always waved a whole lot of red flags for me. Remember when he stopped being friends with Emily after the farmer became friends with her because “you won?” Remember when he watched her from a bush? Or that time he called seeing a movie with you a date and than drank from a flask throughout it? I do. And while I will always opt to fix my beloved Shane, I’m going to need to see some serious growth from this man before I believe he’s actually the “nice guy” he claims to be.
In comparison to Clint, Sandy is a much more elusive character. Sandy is the manager of the Oasis, which is only accessible once you unlock the desert and thus requires a significant amount of time put in the game before you can even interact with her. On top of that, she never leaves the Oasis, meaning there are precious few opportunities to actually speak with her. However, Sandy has always been a very charming character–one that the Stardew fandom has longed to form a deeper connection with for the past decade.
As for what else is coming to Stardew Valley in its 1.7 update, Barone said we’ll just have to wait and see. The patch has yet to receive a release date, but is scheduled to drop (for free, of course) sometime this year.
