Steam has recently added four brand new games that players can add to their libraries at absolutely no cost. Sometimes, Steam’s new games are free to play or are discounted/free for a limited time, but these games launched at the price of absolutely nothing. As of this writing, there is no indication these games will move toward a monetization model, meaning adding them to your library comes with no strings attached.
Of course, that means Steam users should adjust their expectations accordingly, as none of these titles are massive timesink open-world RPGs. But playable hours are only one metric. None of these games has received enough reviews yet to have a specific indicator on Steam, but the reviews that have been left trend positively across all four games.
Valve Gives Update on Steam Machine Hardware Release Plans
Valve shares some reassuring news about the release date for the Steam Machine, confirming the console’s release plans have not changed.
Steam’s new free games are Ferret Quest, 4Spicchi, Bird Watching Simulator, and Grove, and from the titles alone, you can likely surmise that there’s solid variety here too. As always, these games may or may not appeal to you, but the positive reviews so far are positive indicators of each game’s quality. Ferret Quest is a hand-drawn action-adventure platformer where players must step into the powers of a ferret, arm themselves with acorns, and attempt to save the forest. Timing and positioning are important in this platformer, especially as each level cranks up the difficulty. Meanwhile, 4Spicchi is a first-person horror shooter where players take on the role of Margherita, the delivery girl of 4Spicchi pizzeria. Players have a unique weapon that turns pizza ingredients into bullets as they fight through the aliens’ ranks and uncover what’s happening in this delivery gone wrong.

Bird Watching Simulator is exactly what you think it is, with the added benefit (according to the Steam Page) of building your attention span. Players will be able to relax, watch birds, and interact with them, with players able to scare, compliment, or even catch the birds. Finally, Grove is a tower defense game on Steam where players must plant and upgrade trees to nurture and protect a small forest being attacked by Lumberjacks. It’s designed to maximize relaxation, with minimal blue light, rhythmic music, and calming sound effects to promote better sleep.

Grab Some Limited-Time Free Games While You’re At It
Some of the above games may appeal to you, they may not, but the good news is they are not currently the only free games on PC (not to mention other completely free games or promotions). Epic Games Store users have a cozy game and a military shooter they can currently claim for free:
Cozy Grove, which is completely distinct from the aforementioned Grove game, sees players explore an ever-changing island. While players encounter spirits “haunting” the island, it’s more cozy than anything else, and they’ll be able to complete cozy game activities like befriending characters and spirits, collecting spirit animals, crafting decorations, and fishing. Meanwhile, Isonzo is on the other end of the spectrum as a World War 1 first-person shooter, focused on historical Italian offensives like the Sixth Battle of the Isonzo and authentic gameplay and gunplay befitting the era.
Even then, these six games may not appeal to you, and the good news is that more will come to the Epic Games Store on March 19. Cozy Grove and Isonzo will be swapped for the straightforward Electrician Simulator and a bonus content bundle for World of Warships at the times listed above. Steam’s limited-time Free to Keep promotions are a little less consistent in their release, but PC users can keep their ears to the ground. There’s bound to be more soon.
