While Steam‘s Free Weekend Promotion typically focuses on a handful of games, this weekend is a little different, as Steam users will only have 1 game to claim this weekend. Typically costing $9.99, the Steam Free Weekend game is an underrated gem known as DeadPoly.

For anyone new, Steam typically hosts two different free game promotions (aside from developers making their games free to play): the Free Weekend Promotion and the Free-to-Keep Promotion. The latter means games are permanently free as long as someone claims it by an expiration date, while the former means games are permanently free to play until an expiration date. In this case, Steam users have until October 26 at 10 am PT/1 pm ET to play DeadPoly at no cost.

Steam Free Weekend (October 22-October 26)

Steam has made DeadPoly free to play until October 26 at 10 am PT/1 pm ET. For those unaware, DeadPoly is an open-world zombie survival-crafting game that combines third-person shooting, scavenging, crafting, and base building with a distinctive low-poly art style. Developed by TFL Games, the game challenges players to survive a zombie apocalypse by gathering resources, collecting weapons, fortifying shelters, and managing hunger and thirst. Players can explore alone or with friends through online co-op, while additional features include farming, fishing, hunting, customizable firearms, and drivable vehicles. The link below will take players directly to Steam; they do not have to “buy” this game.

DeadPoly has earned Mostly Positive reviews on Steam, with 78% of its 4,114 English-language reviews recommending the game. Recent reception has also been Mostly Positive, with 70% positive feedback across 60 reviews in the past 30 days. The open-world survival-crafting gameplay loop, base-building, and low-poly simplicity are central to its appeal, although certain aspects remain unfinished. The overall reception is encouraging for an indie zombie survival game developed by a single person, particularly as DeadPoly approaches its planned full release in 2027.

What Other Games Are Free on Steam Right Now?

DeadPoly isn’t for everyone, despite the solid and surprising reviews. Even the biggest fans of the best open-world survival-crafting games may be put off by one of its design choices, but there’s plenty of content out there to consider besides DeadPoly as well.

There’s not much else from Steam officially, although Steam’s Free-to-Keep Promotion is currently giving away free Squad DLC, as well as additional content for Popcorn & Premieren. Meanwhile, several games have also moved permanently to free-to-play:

It’s possible Steam adds more to the Free Weekend line-up later this weekend. Stay tuned if none of the above works.
