Steam users currently have a very limited window to claim 2023 2D shooter Witchcraft: Candy Hunt 100% free on the platform. Its developer has confirmed plans to retire the game and delist it from Steam permanently, but those who pick it up before then can keep it forever.
It’s an unfortunate reality of the digital era that many games will not remain on Steam forever, with developers sometimes choosing to delist their titles some time after release. If a developer isn’t planning to support their game anymore, that can make a lot of sense, especially for smaller studios with fewer resources. This is especially true for free games with no monetization model, where ongoing support only costs the developer money.

In a statement released on Steam, developer PixelCrown Games revealed that it plans to permanently delist its 2023 2D shooter Witchcraft: Candy Hunt on Steam, describing it as “an important stepping stone” for the team. The developer reiterated its dedication to its current game in development, a dark fantasy action platformer named GODSCALE. Users who have the game in their library before it’s delisted can keep and play it forever, giving them a limited window to get Witchcraft: Candy Hunt completely free of charge.
Unfortunately, developer PixelCrown Games has not revealed when Witchcraft: Candy Hunt will be delisted from Steam. When a developer wants to take a game down, it must first submit a request form to Valve, which then follows its own procedure to delist it. This means that, as with most delisted games, the amount of time users have to claim Witchcraft: Candy Hunt 100% free on Steam is entirely up to Valve. That’s why users should claim it as soon as possible; once it’s gone, it’s unlikely to return.
As for the actual Witchcraft: Candy Hunt gameplay, its developer describes it as being “an old-school shooter game with charming pixel art graphics that will take you on a Halloween adventure.” Players fly around on a broomstick and fight their way through three levels, each with their own unique enemies. It also offers three difficulties, giving something for gamers of all skill levels. It’s definitely a throwback title, with 2D side-scrolling shooters not being all too common these days.
With Halloween just over a month away, a spooky game like Witchcraft: Candy Hunt could be perfect to set the tone heading into October. Reviews for the game currently sit at “Positive,” with 87% of the current reviews being positive. Users pointed out the short runtime, but praised the retro vibe, visuals, and fun gameplay. It may be short, but when it’s a free Steam game, it’s hard to complain too much.
