Steam Users Can Play Co-Op Zombie Game for Free This Weekend

Steam Users Can Play Co-Op Zombie Game for Free This Weekend

Steam is hosting a new Free Weekend promotion, giving players nearly five days to try No More Room in Hell 2, the latest co-op zombie title from Torn Banner, the developer of the Chivalry series. The original No More Room in Hell began as a Half-Life 2 mod by a different team and launched in 2011 as a free-to-play game on Steam. The sequel, however, is a standalone release priced at $30 USD in Early Access.

Between the two games, the philosophy remains largely the same: up to 8 players are dropped into zombie-infested maps with the goal of gathering resources, killing the infected, and escaping safely. That said, No More Room in Hell 2 leans more into survival horror while mixing in some looter-shooter elements.

New Steam Game Makes You Fight Your Backlog

Gamers who have too many games in their Steam libraries can now beat all their unplayed titles in one sitting, thanks to this indie developer.

Those curious to try the Chivalry developer’s take on the co-op zombie genre have from April 30 to May 4 to play No More Room in Hell 2 completely free. The last time the studio held a Free Weekend was almost a year ago, and the game has remained in active development since then, meaning there are plenty of changes for fans to check out during this promotion.

One of the more interesting additions is the new Survival mode, which is included in the free-to-play promotion. In this mode, players face increasingly intense waves of zombies, with short breaks in between to resupply and reposition before the next round.

Torn Banner is also offering Steam users a limited-time 35% discount on No More Room in Hell 2, bringing its price to the lowest ever.

While its free-to-play status makes No More Room in Hell 2 a low-risk download, Steam users should keep their expectations in check: the game currently holds a Mixed review score on Valve’s storefront. For comparison, the first installment, released nearly 15 years ago, has a Very Positive average user rating and, interestingly, its average concurrent player count is slightly higher than its successor as of this writing. That said, the sequel is still in development, and many of the issues in its Steam Early Access build could be resolved by the time the 1.0 version hits the shelves. On a more encouraging note, developer Torn Banner has fixed over 8,000 bugs since the last Free Weekend event, which proves its commitment to improving the game.

No More Room in Hell 2 is slated for a full release in summer 2026, bringing new characters, maps, and enemy types with the 1.0 version. The good news for console players is that developer Torn Banner has partnered with Green Man Gaming to bring the co-op shooter to both Xbox and PlayStation. The console version won’t include an Early Access phase, though crossplay support will be available once the game launches across all platforms.
