Steam Users Have Limited Time to Claim Asymmetric Co-Op Game 100% Free

Steam Users Have Limited Time to Claim Asymmetric Co-Op Game 100% Free

If they act soon, Steam users can claim a unique 2D asymmetric co-op game completely free of charge, titled Linebound. Whereas asymmetric multiplayer games are not unheard of, asymmetric co-op games are genuinely rarer. What that means is that, while player A is completing one task, player B is completing something else entirely, but they are reliant on each other. Traditional co-op games like Split Fiction have parallel tasks; asymmetric co-op games have drastically different tasks.

It’s worth noting that while this is a Free-to-Keep game on Steam, it is not part of Steam’s Free-to-Keep Promotion. Linebound is free to keep if claimed within the first month post-launch, meaning anyone who claims it before the end of June can keep it forever. After that, Linebound will transition to a full, paid, premium model. This tactic seems worthwhile, though, because as of this writing, Linebound has 100% Positive reviews (out of 19). That number can only go down, really, but that does mean some folks have snagged it free and enjoyed it so far.

Steam’s Free-to-Keep Promotion Has 5* Upcoming 100% Free Games for June 2026

Steam’s Free-to-Keep Promotion is currently slated to get at least five games in June, although more are on the way and one has a slight caveat.

Save 100% on Linebound

In broad strokes, Linebound is a local, asymmetric, cooperative puzzle platform game where one player navigates the world around them and the other draws. Player 1 is the Artist, drawing platforming puzzle solutions in a sketchbook in real time, whereas Player 2 is Sketch: the character who navigates the sketchbook. Sketch has a more limited purview of the world, while the Artist has more of a bird’s eye view, so they need to communicate with each other to complete the game. And of course, its sketchbook aesthetic is quite charming: pencil-drawn environments, crayon colored platforms, and plenty of doodles dot the path. In addition, there are 15 handcrafted levels for players to explore together.

As aforementioned, Linebound is free to keep for the entire first month post-launch, and it’s a brand-new 2026 game that launched on May 31. In other words, it’s free for June and that’s it, so while there’s plenty of time, grab it now before you forget. Free’s free, and co-op games are increasingly popular for good reason. However, it’s worth noting that online co-op isn’t supported innately by Linebound (yet); players must use Steam’s Remote Play Together feature (or Parsec) to play the game, which is a simple enough ask.

Linebound is not part of Steam’s Free-to-Keep Promotion despite working basically the same way, if for an extended period of time, but it’s worth noting that there are a few offerings via that promotion right now. Steam users can currently claim Moonrise Fall and Drift86 until June 2 and June 3, respectively.

Moonrise Fall is an exploration puzzle game focused on atmosphere, where players step into the shoes of a boy lost in a supernatural forest. He just lost both parents in a car crash, but must use a journal, camera, and lantern to explore and learn about the creatures here. There’s brain-teaser gameplay in its puzzles and contemplative, yet interesting locations to explore, making it well worth checking out as a free game on Steam. Meanwhile, Drift86 is a Hot Wheels-like racing game focused on drifting gameplay.
