Steam Users Have Limited Time to Play Co-Op Game Completely Free of Charge

Steam Users Have Limited Time to Play Co-Op Game Completely Free of Charge

For a limited time, Steam users are able to claim and download a new free co-op game on the platform. It’s a straightforward 2-player co-op game like It Takes Two and can probably be beaten in a single sitting.

It’s worth noting that this is a unique case and not part of Steam’s Free-to-Keep Promotion. The latter has slowed down considerably over the past week or so, with Steam’s Free-to-Keep games list for July also only including two new games. Whatever the reason, fans can expect it to pick back up again soon, but there are other methods of getting free Steam games. For example, this Steam game is currently in a free-to-play model but will soon transition to a full, premium paid model. That means folks can play it now without having to pay for it, at least yet.

Co-Op Extraction Shooter on Steam Looks Like Project Zomboid But Plays Like Tarkov

A brand-new extraction shooter on Steam with co-op and PvE seems like the perfect choice for fans of Escape from Tarkov and Project Zomboid.

Sixth Force is Free-to-Play on Steam…For Now

The game in question is Sixth Force, a new Steam game released in June 2026 under a free Early Access banner. Developer EdenSpiel will transition the game to a paid, premium model at the full 1.0 launch, meaning fans should play it now while they can with no charge (which will happen in a few months’ time). They can always pick it up later if they enjoy it, but at its core, it’s a mandatory two-player co-op game where players are connected by a mysterious psychic connection (the titular Force). In other words, it’s kind of like if It Takes Two and Chained Together had a baby. They must use that connection to proceed through various levels, using connected powers to move each other and fight off enemies, and otherwise just have a good time (as is the goal of any game).

Co-op works locally on one shared screen, or online through Steam Remote Play Together.

There’s a bright, colorful, almost Candyland-like aesthetic that makes the game even more visually appealing, but make no mistake, there’s a deeper and darker story at play. As part of this limited-time free-to-play deal, players are able to play the tutorial, explore all of its gameplay mechanics, and complete two full levels. Overall, that’s about an hour or so of two-player gameplay, making it a short and sweet game on Steam.

Of course, developer EdenSpiel is currently hard at work expanding the available content, and the game will be much more expansive at launch. According to EdenSpiel, the whole release will feature more content, polish, and variety, and that’ll no doubt go a long way for the game. Co-op games on Steam or other platforms are popular for a reason (playing with friends), but there should stil lbe plenty of content to support a friend sesh.

Meanwhile, if Sixth Force isn’t scratching a particular itch, it’s worth noting that there is one current Free-to-Keep game on Steam’s promotion right now. Tell Me Why, the episodic narrative game for one player, is available completely free of charge until July 1 at 9 am PT/12 pm ET.
