Steam Users Have Until April 26 to Get 2023 Action-Platformer Game for Free

Action platformer Nocturnal is currently free to claim on Steam as a result of its first-ever 100% discount on Valve’s storefront. Steam users have until April 26 to take advantage of the deal.

Developed by Swiss studio Sunnyside Games, Nocturnal is a 2023 side-scrolling action platformer set in a dark fantasy world. Players step into the role of Ardeshir, a soldier who returns to his island home of Nahran only to find it swallowed by a mysterious fog, seemingly signaling sinister forces taking root. The protagonist then sets out to find this source of evil and cleanse his homeland. Although Nocturnal has some features typically associated with metroidvanias, it is far more linear than the genre usually is, offering a shorter and more straightforward experience closer to old-school action platformers.

Steam Users Have Until April 25 to Claim 2025 Open-World Adventure Game Completely Free of Charge

Steam’s Free-to-Keep Promotion is currently giving away a small-scale open-world adventure game at the cost of nothing.

Typically priced at $16.99, Nocturnal is currently free to claim on Steam. While the indie game has received over two dozen discounts since its June 2023 release, dropping as low as $1.69, the ongoing promotion marks the first time ever that it is being given away at no cost. Sunnyside Games launched the new offer on April 23, framing it as a way to promote Nocturnal 2, which is currently targeting a 2026 debut, though it is still waiting for a release date. In the meantime, Steam users are able to take advantage of the 100% discount on Nocturnal until April 26 at 10 a.m. EDT.

Separately, four other freebies are currently available on Valve’s storefront, covering three games and one DLC pack. The shortest-running offer is a 100% discount on SurrounDead Poly Construction, an open-world survival game that has been in early access since November 2025. Typically priced at $5.99, the indie title is free to claim until April 25. Meanwhile, the creepy hidden-object puzzle adventure 8AM is available at a 100% discount until April 27, while Steam users have until April 29 to claim the alternate-history adventure game Aeonic.

Nocturnal is the 14th freebie available on Valve’s storefront in April 2026. Since the beginning of the month, Steam users have been able to claim the horror game Depths Of Horror: Mushroom Day, home renovation simulator House Flipper, and pixel art RPG Graveyard Keeper. Chamber Survival, LivingForest, NineHells, and Uncanny Tales: Cold Road were also among the April 2026 freebies, together with Legend of Keepers, Stickman Killing Zombie, and Sentience: The Android’s Tale.

Nocturnal stands out as one of the highest-rated titles among this month’s free games, having amassed more than 400 Steam user reviews with an 85.25% positive rating. It also distinguishes itself with a fire mechanic woven into both combat and puzzles, requiring players to constantly search for sources of flame to reignite their sword. Games with similarly elaborate fire mechanics do exist, but they remain relatively rare in the realm of side-scrolling action platformers.
