Steam Users Have Until March 16 to Claim Hand-Drawn Comedy Game Completely Free of Charge

Steam users can add the 2012 hand-drawn comedy-adventure game Deponia to their game libraries for free. Gamers who are interested in claiming Deponia for their Steam libraries should act fast, as this latest promotion is only active until March 16.

PC gamers are never short of free promotions on Steam. Free-to-keep promotions are a regular occurrence on the platform, and there is usually at least one game available to grab at any given time. It’s not as regularly scheduled as the Epic Game Store’s weekly giveaway, but players who look will usually find something to add to their Steam libraries. Prior to Deponia, Steam users could claim Crowalt: Traces of the Lost Colony for free, so there’s a good amount of variety in the types of games that are available in these kinds of promotions. Steam’s giveaways often focus on indie titles and provide great exposure for studios looking to get their games’ names out there.

New Creature Collector on Steam Might Be the Dark Horse Successor to Palworld

Palworld has grown to become one of the best monster-collecting games on Steam, and another one releasing this year may be a worthy successor.

Current Free Steam Game

Gamers should head to Steam right now to grab Deponia completely free of charge, a hand-drawn point-and-click adventure game with a comedy focus. The game was released in 2012 by developer Daedalic Entertainment, which also developed games like Blackguards, State of Mind, and The Lord of the Rings: Gollum. The Steam page boasts a story in which players must help protagonist Rufus, “the poor boy from the junkyard,” “win over the girl from heaven.” Along the way, he’ll help save the planet by solving challenging point-and-click puzzles, with the developer boasting that it features a “unique universe” that draws comparisons to the works of Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett, and Matt Groening. The game’s hand-drawn animation looks stunning, a timeless style that makes it easy to forget that Deponia was released in 2012.

Steam reviews for Deponia are currently solid, with 77% of them being positive. This gives the game an overall “Mostly Positive” review score, with players praising its witty humor, engaging characters, and excellent visuals. Not everyone was a fan of the point-and-click puzzles, but overall, Deponia seems to be well worth a try. HowLongToBeat puts Deponia at around 8 hours for the average player to complete the main story, with completionists tending to get closer to 10 and a half hours from the game. Considering it doesn’t cost anything to pick up, that’s a good amount of content to enjoy.

This Steam promotion marks the first time that Deponia has ever been free on the platform since its release. The game has enjoyed regular discounts down to $0.99, but it is usually priced at $9.99. Regardless, players should add Deponia to their Steam library as soon as possible, if they’re planning to. The free Steam game expires on March 16, giving players a full week to claim it at the time of writing. It should be noted that players do not have to install it immediately – they simply need to hit the “Add to Account” button while signed in to Steam, and it will be registered to their account so they can play it at a later date.

Players who grab Deponia for free and enjoy it may also like to know that the game has multiple sequels: Chaos on Deponia, Goodbye Deponia, and Deponia Doomsday, released in 2012, 2013, and 2016, respectively. They are point-and-click adventure games in the vein of the original, all three enjoying “Very Positive” Steam reviews. The trio of games is 90% off on Steam until March 23, giving players the chance to enjoy the original before committing to purchasing the rest of the story. Later this year, Daedalic Entertainment plans to release Surviving Deponia, which will see the series try its hand at the survival genre for the first time. It will be a significant change of pace, and giving the original Deponia out for free is an interesting way to draw new fans into the franchise.
