Steam Users Have Until May 11 to Play Open-World, Satisfactory-Like Game Completely Free of Charge

Steam Users Have Until May 11 to Play Open-World, Satisfactory-Like Game Completely Free of Charge

Until May 11 at 10 am PT/1 pm ET, Steam users will be able to download and play the open-world automation game Foundry at absolutely no cost. After this free-to-play weekend period ends, they are able to purchase the game at a reasonable -30% discount to keep playing it, and it’s worth noting that Foundry is a well-reviewed automation/factory simulation game on Steam.

Foundry is not the only Steam game currently hosting a free-to-play weekend, but the difference between it and the other game (The Midnight Walkers) is stark. Foundry has a Very Positive rating on Steam, with 80% of fans praising its various features: automation systems, Minecraft-like blocks, open-world co-op features, and creative freedom. It doesn’t hurt, either, that it comfortably sits between games like Satisfactory and Factorio. The Midnight Walkers‘ recent reviews are, unfortunately, Mostly Negative for an overall lack of content, polish, and quality, but if someone wanted to check out the new extraction shooter, it is also available for free until May 11.

    • Discounts Available Until May 14

Meanwhile, Foundry is rock solid. It delivers on everything someone would want out of the automation/factory-building genre, complete with an infinite voxel world not unlike Minecraft‘s. Players obviously mine and harvest resources, automate production, and manage complex systems. The best part of the genre is mastering those complex systems like any Satisfactory player would know, and Foundry has that sensation in spades.

Further features include, but are certainly not limited to,

  • The loving snakiness of a conveyor belt and pipe system
  • Did I mention a voxel world like Minecraft?
  • Research and Technology trees, obviously
  • Personalization features (from items to color options)
  • Factories can go deep underground and into the skies above.

Anyone who loves the genre, especially automation games like Satisfactory, should be sure to check this out with their buddies (online co-op supports up to four players). Honestly, the free-to-play weekend should easily translate to sales because the -30% discount lasts until May 14. It’s not made clear on the Steam page, but the sale will presumably end at 10am PT/1pm ET as well. Anyone who is persuaded by this free-to-play Steam weekend should be sure to jump on this deal.

It typically retails for $29.99, so this reduces it to $20.99. The Founder’s Edition is only slightly more expensive, featuring the same discount and coming in at $24.49, and it includes some special “metallic magnate” content. This includes a specialized character skin, unique office decor, and specialized construction blocks.

If someone is looking for a new co-op game for this weekend, something to chill out with buddies and play, then it’s hard not to consider Foundry. I’ve got a few things on my plate right now (getting the Plat in Saros, playing Gray Zone Warfare with one buddy, and checking out the highly reviewed Mixtape), but my countless hours in Satisfactory means I can’t ignore this game.
