Street Fighter 6 Ends Support for Major Mode

Street Fighter 6 is ending support for the World Tour story mode of the game. The move comes as Street Fighter 6 is rapidly approaching the third anniversary of its release date, and has reached the end of the new characters arriving with Season 3.

Street Fighter 6 kicked off with 18 fighters at launch, but it quickly accumulated more via season passes, with the third season pass finally wrapping up at the end of May. Following fan requests for her addition in Street Fighter 5, which were acknowledged by developers but ultimately didn’t happen, Ingrid has returned to the series as the final character in Season 3 of Street Fighter 6. However, this new reveal from the developers regarding World Tour also indicates that it’s also the end of an era for Street Fighter 6.

Street Fighter 6 Leak Claims Tifa is Coming to the Game

A new rumor seemingly outs the characters coming to Street Fighter 6 in Season 4, with the guest character rumored to be FF7’s Tifa Lockhart.

Street Fighter 6 Is Ending World Tour Mode

Alongside the latest Street Fighter 6 update, which also fixed bugs and introduced balance changes to existing fighters, Capcom has announced the end of support for World Tour mode. According to a tweet from the developers, Ingrid will be the last new character introduced that will be added to World Tour. No reason was offered for the end of World Tour’s support, but players were assured that they would still be able to access the mode and all the World Tour Masters that have previously been released for it.

Since the announcement, numerous players have emerged in the comments of the tweet and in other Street Fighter 6 communities across the web to lament the end of new World Tour content. Many seemed disappointed that the mode would get no more content in general, while others were disappointed that fighters they are still hoping to see added to the game won’t be included in the mode. A few also expressed concerns that Street Fighter 6 might be “winding down.” However, Capcom hasn’t made any announcements indicating that support for the game in its entirety is ending, and recent datamining efforts have allegedly discovered banners for Season 4 in-game.

SF6 World Tour Destinations- Nayshall

Story modes in fighting games tend to see a mixed reaction from playerbases, as many just want to enjoy matches against other players or the CPU, and don’t care about the story. Others, however, see the story as an integral part of fighting games. Some seem hopeful and optimistic that without World Tour’s additional story content, there could theoretically be more DLC characters included in future seasons, or they may release in quicker waves. However, there’s no guarantee of this, nor has any official confirmation come from Capcom regarding changes to the Season Pass system.

If there’s strong enough backlash from the fanbase, it’s possible that the developers might change their minds. However, players shouldn’t count on that happening. Season 4 of Street Fighter 6 will likely be announced at Summer Game Fest, as the Season 2 and 3 passes were. That event will begin on June 5, and development of any characters introduced there will likely already be in full-swing, so adding a considerable amount of World Tour story content following this announcement probably isn’t going to happen.
