Super Expensive, Time-Limited World of Warcraft 12.1.5 Release Officially Revealed

World of Warcraft‘s 12.1.5 patch is going to feature an extraordinarily expensive, customizable mount that players can only get for a short time. Patch 12.1.5 will introduce new story quests and content to World of Warcraft, such as the new The Promise of Tomorrow story campaign, the Unbinding of Kith’ix raid with just one boss, Labyrinths, and more. Midnight wasn’t a universal success, and some players didn’t like the many class changes and the new focus on housing elements, so patch 12.1.5 has a lot to prove.

World of Warcraft nerfed its best specs in Curse of Ula’tek, which was the recent 12.1 update, so it’s unclear what the meta will be in the next release. Still, Curse of Ula’tek provided fans with a lot of new content, including a whole new zone to explore, and the next update doesn’t seem light on features and additions either. Blizzard released an article about WoW’s 12.1.5 patch to showcase what’s coming, but one of its most exciting additions has been datamined by fans, and it’s a brand-new mount with player-selected vendors.

World of Warcraft Officially Brings Back Must-Have Item, and It’s Completely Free

World of Warcraft just brough back one of the rarest and most popular rewards in the game completely for free.

World of Warcraft 12.1.5 Update Officially Adds 5-Million Customizable Mount

World of Warcraft players have datamined the new Sporebearer Fungal Strider mount coming with patch 12.1.5, which features two vendors from a selection of four, and costs a whopping 5 million gold plus 500,000 gold for a Transmogrifier and 1,500,000 gold for an Auction House NPC. The mount comes with the Repair vendor and Mail Courier when purchased for 5 million gold, but it can be customized with a Transmogrifier and/or Auction House NPC in place of the existing ones. This can be done at any time through Hoshena, an NPC located near the original mount vendor, Showena, in the Den in World of Warcraft‘s Harandar. Any combination of these four vendors can be chosen, but if players want to purchase both the Transmogrifier and Auction House NPCs alongside the mount itself, they will need to fork out a total of 7 million gold. On top of that, the mount will only be available during the Midnight expansion.

From a conceptual standpoint, this mount is similar to the infamous $90 Trader’s Gilded Brutosaur in World of Warcraft, but it’s arguably even more expensive. While it can be obtained completely free of charge, the 5-million price point is inherently prohibitive for most players. At that point, the only way to get the mount is to purchase multiple WoW Game Time Tokens, which award players with 30 days of game time if they use them, but can also be sold to other players at a variable rate. Currently, players can purchase WoW Tokens for $20 in the US, but they have a rate of 1:238,909 gold at the time of writing. If one wanted to get 7 million through Tokens, they would need to buy between 29 and 30 Tokens, for a total of around $600. Even if one only wanted the base mount without the customizable vendors, the cost would be equivalent to around 21 Tokens in the US, which is still $420.

This method is more efficient in Europe, as each Token costs 20 Euros, but then yields around 365,000 gold. Either way, this special mount can be extremely expensive for those who want to buy it with real money, but it’s still not cheap in in-game gold. This is not the only exclusive new mount coming to World of Warcraft, as the Hearthkeeper’s Wandering Caravan has also been datamined, presumably coming to the cash shop soon.

The Sporebearer Fungal Strider mount will inevitably be an expensive Warcraft release later this year. Yet, one could argue that the freedom of choosing vendors at any time, combined with great-looking VFX, will make it a must-have for all fans.
