Super Mario Galaxy Movie Reveal Spoiled By Ratings Board

Super Mario Galaxy Movie Reveal Spoiled By Ratings Board

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie lands in theaters next week, and Illumination and Nintendo have kept a fair bit of the movie under wraps, despite multiple trailers and casting announcements. However, the UK ratings board may have revealed a pretty major spoiler for the animated sequel that could have big ramifications for the series at large. If you want to go into the movie unspoiled when it hits theaters on April 1, look away.

The British Board of Film Classification has rated The Super Mario Galaxy Movie PG over in the UK for “mild violence” and “threat.” That on its own tells us pretty much nothing, but the board’s rating page has additional info for those who are looking for more information about the movie’s content. Under the “theme” category, the board mentions “Infrequent very mild upsetting scenes include flashbacks to the separation of a girl and her younger sister.”

While the ratings board doesn’t get any more specific than that, Nintendo has said that at one point in the development of the original Super Mario Galaxy, it had considered making Princess Peach and Rosalina relatives of some kind. No such connection has never been established in the games despite the two’s obvious resemblance, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the movie finally made this years-long fan theory a reality. If that’s the case, the two being separated at a young age makes sense considering Peach lives in the Mushroom Kingdom and Rosalina lives with the Lumas in space. Peach can be seen in some of the Galaxy-esque areas in the trailers, so the movie may turn out to be a story of sisters reuniting and taking down Bowser together.

Rosalina is voiced by Captain Marvel actor Brie Larson, who has more than demonstrated her Mario cred in early interviews.
