Nintendo has launched a new limited-time crossover event for Super Mario Run that is celebrating the recent launch of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. Super Mario Run is a mobile game that is a part of the mainline Super Mario series that first launched in 2016. This title is still getting updates to this day, with the game sometimes getting crossover events that are tied to newly released Nintendo Switch titles.
Back in March, Super Mario Run had a crossover event with Princess Peach: Showtime, celebrating the latter’s release. The event ran for a limited time, giving players extra bonus medals and special items, concluding earlier this May. Players can now participate in an event centered around the Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake that launched on Nintendo Switch earlier this past week, getting new content and rewards based on the game.

Like past celebrations, this new Super Mario Run event will run for a limited time as well, with a bonus 1.2x multiplier being applied for the amount of medals earned in the level Remix 10. This gives players of Super Mario Run the chance to get special items from the Super Bonus Game, with this bonus being applicable until May 25th. - In-Game statues based on Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (available until June 27)

These statues are based on some of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door‘s iconic characters; Paper Mario himself, Goombella, and Koops. Goombella is a Goomba student who provides Mario and the player some additional flavor text and statistics about an enemy using her Tattle ability, and is the first partner to join. Koops is the second partner to join Mario’s party and is an insecure Koopa teenager who embarks on a journey to get stronger for his girlfriend.
The Thousand-Year Door remake has been a huge hit on the Switch so far, becoming one of the highest-rated games of 2024, ranking among other games like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Tekken 8, and Balatro. Fans have lauded the remake for retaining the core experience of the GameCube original, updating and tweaking some aspects to not only make it better looking, but also addressing some criticisms of the original Thousand-Year Door. Fans are incredibly impressed with Intelligent Systems and Nintendo’s efforts at remaking the classic Mario RPG.
