Supergirl may be Superman’s older cousin, but because her ship from their home planet of Krypton was caught in suspended animation as she made her much-delayed trip to Earth, Clark experienced many years of life here before she ever touched down on the planet. As a result, when they first meet, her baby cousin is a grown man and she’s just a girl whose people have been gone for decades. With the DCU portraying Kara Zor-El as a bit of a burnout compared to her cousin, it’s not surprising that the Supergirl movie would depict their eventual meeting in a humorous way, and DC has released a clip from the film that shows just that.

The scene shows Superman (David Corenswet) finding Kara (Milly Alcock) in her pod near the Fortress of Solitude, and though there’s a language barrier, as Clark doesn’t speak Kryptonian, he does his best to try to communicate with her and Krypto, her superpowered dog. Kara’s dialogue is subtitled, and in the midst of taking everything in, she wonders why Superman is in his underwear. Just then, as she soaks up the rays of our sun, Clark advises her that her superhero abilities are about to kick in.

The whole thing is pretty cute, and I still really love Corenswet as Superman just trying his best under difficult circumstances. He’s a sweetheart, and I’m interested to see how the two play off each other in the full movie. Alcock appeared very briefly in last year’s Superman, and though it was only for a few seconds, her antihero spirit came through in just the one scene.

Supergirl is coming to theaters on June 26, and will follow Kara’s intergalactic journey to save Krypto, who will die in three days if she can’t put a stop to it. The movie will be followed by Clayface, which is going for a very different, body horror vibe.
