Suspicious Steam Activity Basically Confirms Fallout 3, New Vegas Remakes Are on the Way

Some recent activity on Steam indicates that two beloved RPGs, Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, may be receiving remakes in the near future. The first entry in the Fallout series to be developed and published by Bethesda, Fallout 3 proved to be a radical departure for the franchise in 2008, transforming what was an isometric RPG into a first-person open-world title. The game turned out to be a major critical and commercial success, shaping the future of the Fallout series with its subsequent titles.

2010’s Fallout: New Vegas arrived as a spinoff of Fallout 3, this time being developed by Obsidian Entertainment. Upon release, the game was criticized for its bugs and glitches, which detracted from what was otherwise an overall high-quality product at the time. Obsidian worked to fix these issues, and the game has since been re-evaluated as one of the high watermarks of the series and one of its most commercially successful entries.

Reddit Users Note Steam Activity Pointing to New Fallout Re-Releases

Across the Fallout subreddit, users have been noticing issues with different Fallout entries on Steam, all of which point toward Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas receiving re-releases. User Homer4a10 attempted to leave a review for Fallout: New Vegas, but was met with a message that said, “You must wait until this product has been released before writing a review for it.” Homer4a10 has noted that this issue is also affecting Fallout 3, and users have reported that other Fallout titles have not encountered the same problem. Commenters, however, pointed out that some games outside of the Fallout series, such as Batman: Arkham City and Kerbal Space Program, have produced the same message.

User Excellent-Court-9375 found that, after typing Fallout in Steam’s “Search” bar, an option appears to browse the franchise and lists 12 games. However, the resulting Fallout series page only shows 10 titles. It’s unclear if Steam is counting content outside the games, and some Reddit users speculate that this discrepancy may be the result of the storefront counting region-locked versions of these titles.

Like any round of gaming rumors or speculation, it’s important to take all of this information with a grain of salt. Steam is naturally susceptible to bugs, and this could very well be a coincidental pairing of oddities on the storefront. Even though rumors surrounding re-releases of these two Fallout games have flown for some time now, a few Steam glitches don’t necessarily confirm their existence.

Even so, having re-releases of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas would certainly be exciting propositions. Fans would be able to enjoy two of the most beloved entries in the series in an entirely new way, while an updated retail release would open the door for a new legion of players to experience them for the first time. Remakes of these two iconic titles would also serve as a fantastic way for Bethesda to hold fans over while Fallout 5 continues to develop.
