Switch 2’s Price Hike Makes Nintendo’s $499 Bundle Look Like a Genius Move

Switch 2’s Price Hike Makes Nintendo’s 9 Bundle Look Like a Genius Move

Unfortunately, the Switch 2 isn’t safe from hardware price hikes. Nintendo recently announced that the console will be increasing its price from $449.99 to $499.99. The new Switch 2 price point may not be as dramatic of a hike as the PS5 Pro, but it’s still a frustrating decision, especially when even certain Nintendo games have hit the $80 mark.

There is still a silver lining to the Switch 2 price increase, though. Gamers still have a decent amount of time to get the console at its original price. The Switch 2’s price hike doesn’t go into effect until September 1, 2026, but that isn’t the only good news. Nintendo’s Choose Your Game Bundle is now available, and it’s a great deal when comparing it to the console’s upcoming bump in price.

Why Some Players Are Shelving Their PS5 in 2026 for the Nintendo Switch 2

Sony has been making really controversial moves, and it has inspired some gamers to ditch their consoles in favor of the Switch 2.

The Choose Your Game Bundle Might Be the Perfect Opportunity for Gamers to Get a Switch 2 for the Best Possible Price

When it comes to gaming affordability, 2026 has been filled with disappointing news. Whether it’s the Switch 2, the PS5 and PS5 Pro, or the Xbox Series X/S, prices are going up. Even though Sony hasn’t even officially unveiled its next console, there are already rumors and leaks that the price of the PS6 is going to cost more than a Steam Machine (which is an eye-watering $1,049 for just the base model).

Console in One

Put the consoles in the correct order.

The future of gaming is looking more and more like a luxury hobby, and that’s scary. A world where a console costs over $1,000 is a reality that most gamers don’t want to live in. Thankfully, that future hasn’t come to fruition yet, but it’s looking more likely that it will be something gamers have to prepare for. On the bright side, though, the Switch 2 is only a year into its life cycle, so getting one now might be one of the best ways to get a console that can play a large library for years to come without completely breaking the bank. The Choose Your Game Bundle is priced at $500 and allows buyers to choose between one of three games to add in as a package deal.

These Are Nintendo’s Choose Your Game Bundle Options

  • Mario Kart World
  • Donkey Kong Bananza
  • Pokemon Pokopia

Since this is a Nintendo-created deal, it only makes sense that the three options are first-party exclusives. Even if you’re a newcomer to the Nintendo ecosystem, opting for the Choose Your Game Bundle opens the door for a great opportunity to finally jump into some of the best Nintendo games of the past few years. Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza are great reminders of why these two characters are such important Nintendo mascots, while a game like Pokemon Pokopia showcases just how much potential the Pokemon franchise has with inventive spin-offs.

Without the bundle, buying Mario Kart World will put gamers back a whopping $80, while Donkey Kong Bananza and Pokemon Pokopia are priced at the standard $70.

So, for gamers who have been on the fence about finally getting a Switch 2, buying one now might be better than waiting. For $500, you can get both a console and a great game before the price of a single console is going to cost that much. It’s also unclear how long Nintendo is going to be hosting this offer, and it’s highly unlikely that the company will still have this deal available by the time the Switch 2’s September price shake-up arrives. With major releases like the Ocarina of Time remake only being available for the Switch 2, there are increasingly more reasons to get the console.

The Switch 2’s Library Is Quickly Growing Beyond the Usual Nintendo Offerings, and That Makes It One of the Best Budget-Friendly Consoles at the Moment

Compared to its predecessor, the Switch 2 is a much stronger console. It’s on par with an Xbox Series S, and while that isn’t going to come close to a PS5 or a strong PC, that’s impressive for a Nintendo product. Another major feature that the Switch 2 has that outshines its competitors is that it also has the benefit of being portable. It might not be able to compete with the Steam Deck, but for around half the price, you can play great Nintendo exclusive games while also enjoying massive games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Resident Evil Requiem.

Some of the biggest third-party titles that are confirmed to be coming to the Switch 2 this year are games like High on Life 2, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, Hell Is Us, Rayman: Legends Retold, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.

The Switch 2 is quickly becoming a great all-around console because of its growing library. Rockstar hasn’t confirmed anything yet, but there have even been leaks in the past that claim a GTA 6 Switch 2 version might be in the cards. Bold claims like these need to be met with skepticism, but that would be huge if it turns out to be true.

Gaming’s Pricing Problems Don’t Look Like They’re Slowing Down Any Time Soon

The constant console price hikes and a seemingly more expensive future are headache-inducing, but there are at least still some decent deals available at the moment. Nintendo’s Choose Your Game Bundle isn’t going to be for everyone. However, those who have been waiting for the right moment to finally hop on the Switch 2 bandwagon may be running out of time to get the ultimate bang for your buck.

If the Switch 2’s life cycle is anything like its predecessor’s, then it should have around eight or more years of solid gaming to offer. There are a lot of great upcoming Switch 2 games on the horizon that are bound to make getting the Nintendo console well worth the purchase. Of course, choosing which console fits one’s lifestyle the best is a personal decision. There are plenty of gamers who won’t like Nintendo’s limitations, but getting a Switch 2 bundled with one of the console’s best games is going to feel even better when the new price hike goes into effect.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Choose Your Game Bundle is currently available for purchase on Nintendo’s official website.
