Grand Theft Auto 6 publisher Take-Two Interactive is officially pursuing legal action following the recent spread of gameplay leaks, with the company filing a subpoena aimed at uncovering information that could help identify the person and/or group responsible for the footage. As many fans know, the past few days have seen a total of 6 gameplay leaks hit the internet, plus the entire map of GTA 6‘s Vice City.
Plenty of rumors have also spread across the internet about how this GTA 6 leaker got his hands on this playable build, as one gameplay clip shows him shooting “leek” into an underpass wall. Some have also considered this to be some kind of extensive PR stunt for the Netflix Extended look, which would gel well considering how the world’s first look at GTA 6 was a data breach leak in 2022. While it remains to be seen, as Rockstar and Take-Two will no doubt find this individual/group sooner rather than later, Take-Two has issued an official response.
Take-Two is Pursuing Legal Action Against GTA 6 Leaker
Take-Two Interactive has filed subpoenas targeting Microsoft and Discord, asking for records connected to accounts involved in sharing the leaked material. The requests show that Take-Two is now actively investigating the source of the leaks as GTA 6 continues to approach its November 19 release date. As first reported by Kotaku, the subpoenas seek a wide range of information, including account details, email addresses, IP addresses, phone numbers, linked accounts, device identifiers, and data connected to Microsoft OneDrive.

Take-Two’s official statement in the subpoena, filed with the Southern District Court of New York on August 20, reads,
“The copyrighted material includes but is not limited to audiovisual content, artwork, images, dialogue, or other creative elements. Take-Two, through its counsel of record, has submitted a sworn declaration confirming that the purpose for which the DMCA subpoena is sought is to obtain the identity of an alleged infringer or infringers, and that such information will only be used for the purpose of protecting Take-Two’s rights.”
Take-Two’s filings specifically identify several aliases and communities that the company believes could have information about the source of the leaks, too. Microsoft has been given until September 4 to provide records related to its investigation into Cyberleek, while Discord faces the same deadline for information tied to several servers and accounts connected to the spread of the footage. Unfortunately for the companies, compliance by that date (after Netflix’s GTA 6 Extended Look) means more leaks are likely to hit if the leaker has the access followers think he does. Most importantly, the filings make it clear that Take-Two is not simply trying to remove individual GTA 6 gameplay clips from the internet.
Find the odd one out before the timer hits zero.
The company is clearly attempting to uncover who is responsible for obtaining and distributing the GTA 6 gameplay leaks in the first place, with the subpoenas covering activity dating back to June 1, 2026. Rockstar Games itself has not publicly commented on the latest leaks, but Take-Two’s legal response suggests the companies are taking the situation seriously as more unreleased GTA 6 content continues to circulate online.
