Terraria’s ‘Bigger & Boulder’ Update Is Live With Huge QoL Changes

Terraria’s ‘Bigger & Boulder’ Update Is Live With Huge QoL Changes

Terraria’s long-awaited 1.4.5 update, titled Bigger & Boulder, is now live across PC, console, and most mobile platforms, marking one of the game’s most substantial updates in years. Released as part of Terraria’s 15th anniversary celebrations, the update delivers sweeping quality-of-life improvements, new world-generation options, hundreds of new items, and crossover content with Dead Cells and Palworld.

Developer Re-Logic confirmed the update is rolling out globally on PC, console, and mobile, except the China mobile version, which has been delayed due to server migration requirements, localization review, and the proximity of the Chinese New Year. Re-Logic said it is working with publishing partners to bring the update to that region “as soon as possible.”

The Rarest Items In Terraria

Re-Logic’s Terraria contains thousands of items, some of which are extremely difficult to obtain. What the rarest items in the sandbox game?

A Major Overhaul to Crafting and Inventory Management

One of the big changes in 1.4.5 is a redesigned crafting interface aimed at making Terraria’s massive item pool — now exceeding 6,000 items — easier to navigate. The new system organizes recipes into searchable categories such as weapons and furniture, replacing the older grid-based view while still allowing players to toggle back to the classic layout if they prefer.

Crafting has also been streamlined through expanded chest integration, allowing players to automatically use materials stored in nearby chests without moving them into their inventory. Re-Logic says the goal was to reduce friction and keep players focused on exploration, combat, and building.

Spectator Mode and Housing Improvements

Multiplayer players will now find a new Spectate feature when waiting to respawn, allowing them to cycle through other players’ perspectives instead of watching a countdown timer. Housing mechanics have also been relaxed: NPCs no longer require a valid room to spawn, reducing early-game pressure, though unhoused villagers will retreat at night and be unavailable until assigned a home.

The Housing Query tool has been visually upgraded as well, clearly highlighting which housing requirements are met or missing.

World Seeds Take Center Stage

World seeds are a major focus of Bigger & Boulder. A new World Seed Menu makes special seeds easier to discover and select, while also allowing players to combine them for customized experiences.

Among the additions is an official Skyblock seed, which starts players on a small floating island with limited resources and entirely new survival dynamics. Re-Logic has also introduced a range of new secret and themed seeds, including options for permanent holiday settings, constant rain, altered terrain generation, team-based “battle royale”-style spawns, and more experimental effects that can dramatically change gameplay—sometimes in unexpected ways.

Some seed combinations unlock hidden effects, encouraging experimentation and discovery.

Crossovers With Dead Cells and Palworld

The update also brings long-teased crossover content. Terraria’s side of the Dead Cells collaboration includes weapons, vanity items, furniture, and abilities inspired by Motion Twin’s action roguelike, reimagined in Terraria’s pixel-art style.

Meanwhile, the Palworld crossover introduces summonable Pals that function as companions rather than cosmetic pets. Creatures like Digtoise can assist with mining, while others help with gathering and exploration, adding new utility-focused gameplay options.

Hundreds of New Items, Atmosphere Upgrades, and Music

In total, 1.4.5 adds more than 650 new items, including new summoner whips, transformation mounts, furniture sets, decorative blocks, critters, and novelty items—yes, including several new types of boulders. Some of the new hazards are more dynamic than ever, with boulders that fall upward, trigger during thunderstorms, or behave differently in secret seeds.

The update also enhances Terraria’s atmosphere with new biome backgrounds, lighting effects, visible fish while fishing, auroras, thunderstorms, and updated sprites for banners and trophies.

Music received a major expansion as well, with eight new boss tracks ensuring every boss now has its own theme. These tracks will be added to the official soundtrack in a future update.
