New zombie games are always a cause for celebration, and the genre is having a rock-solid 2026 so far. While it has largely moved away from traditional zombies, Resident Evil Requiem was still a big deal for all horror fans. Meanwhile, Toxic Commando is a bloody good time for any friends looking to mow down the walking dead with reckless abandon. While we have received a few heavy hitters already, the best is hopefully yet to come, and the future is filled with animated corpses.

Nowadays, we don’t really get big zombie games all that often, so we really need to cherish the ones that come out (and the independent developers who try to fill the gap). Let’s take a look at the biggest upcoming zombie games that are either slated for 2026 or should be coming within the next few years.

As long as its monsters are similar to zombies, a game will be considered even if it assigns a different name to them.

Updated May 11, 2026 by Mark Sammut: Two upcoming zombie games have been added: Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition and No More Room in Hell 2 (1.0).

The imminent future is not exactly filled with 2026 zombie games, as pretty much nothing has announced a release date. However, May has a port coming soon to the Nintendo Switch 2 that features one of the most recognizable heroines in the genre: Juliet Starling. That’s right, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP will soon be available on the newest console, making it pretty much available on all modern systems. Now, is this a game that warrants double-dipping?

If you own the remaster on the PS5 or Xbox, there won’t be too much to gain from picking up the Switch 2 version, except for a gun shooting mini-game that unblocks after completing the game. That sounds like a nice bonus rather than a major selling point. If somebody owns the game on the Switch 1, they can upgrade it to the Switch 2 for just $4.99, which is a solid deal considering it comes with improved visuals and the aforementioned mini-game.

For those who only played the original Lollipop Chainsaw on the PS3 and Xbox 360, RePOP brings enough changes to warrant a retry, provided you have fond memories of the game. Besides better graphics and performance, players can also swap between two art styles, and there is even a nightmare mode for those who want a bigger challenge.

Finally, complete newcomers should definitely check out Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, especially if they enjoy Suda51’s other games like No More Heroes or Killer is Dead.

No More Room in Hell 2 (1.0 Release)

No More Room in Hell is maybe the greatest F2P zombie game of all time, and its sequel had pretty big shoes to fill. In October 2024, No More Room in Hell 2 entered early access and got an all-around mixed reception, primarily (but not solely) due to launching with a lot of bugs and glitches. A rough state is to be expected of any early access game, but NMRIH2‘s issues made it hard to enjoy, and its nearly $30 price tag was a big pill to swallow considering its predecessor’s free status.

Like all early access games by a passionate developer, NMRIH2 has improved significantly, and it is nowadays in a far better state than during its launch era. In fact, the game has started to pick up momentum in the last month or so, thanks to a free weekend that seemed to convince hundreds of players that it was worth a purchase. The 1.0 version is expected in the Summer of 2026, so it should be happening soon.

Stupid Never Dies

Best Upcoming Game For Those Who Want To Be The Zombie

Well, wasn’t this one of The Game Awards’ most unexpected reveals? Stupid Never Dies sets itself apart from other upcoming zombie games through two means. Firstly, its title is straight-up great. Secondly, and crucially, the game casts you as a zombie. Although we have received a few projects that push the walking dead as protagonists, this title takes place in a dungeon dominated by monsters, and zombies are considered the weakest of all the species. Consequently, the protagonist, Davy, mostly just wants to keep his head out of trouble; however, when a human girl is frozen, he sets out on an epic action RPG quest to save her.

The concept sounds incredible, and the available footage and images suggest that Stupid Never Dies features hack-and-slash combat. According to the Steam description, players will be able to steal abilities from enemies, along with customizing their favorite corpse. Information about this project is still fairly scarce, but it could be among 2026’s most pleasant surprises.

Beautiful Light

Ever come across a game that sounds too good to be true? Steam is absolutely packed with them, and tempting as it might be to embrace the excitement, it is always best to keep expectations a little bit in check until the project actually drops. Beautiful Light has the potential to tap into two markets: Extraction shooters and asymmetrical multiplayer games. While both are popular, we don’t actually have a lot of great games either, so a project that manages to bring out the best of both worlds could really strike gold. Beautiful Light will try to do just that, and its ambition is admirable.

Touted as a PvPvPvE game, Beautiful Light casts most players as human soldiers who enter a zone with objectives they need to complete, and they will go up against other player teams and AI anomalies, which are monsters that include zombies. The first big twist is that some anomalies will be controlled by a player, similar to something like Dead by Daylight or Evolve. If executed well, this could make for a fascinating and chaotic multiplayer scene, although we have to see it in practice to really know if it works. The second big twist is that, unlike most extraction shooters, Beautiful Light is driven by mission goals and RPG progression rather than loot, which could remove the need to wipe out progress after players have unlocked all the best weapons.

Nakwon: Last Paradise

From the publisher behind The First Descendant and quite a few other multiplayer-focused games, Nakwon: Last Paradise is a zombie take on the extraction formula. Set in South Korea after an outbreak leaves a city in ruins and overrun with the walking dead, players must depart their shelter in search of loot, an expedition that is guaranteed to throw them deep into a life-or-death situation. Based on the available footage, Nakwon is a third-person survival game that emphasizes melee combat and stealth, with survivors able to avoid confronting enemiesto minimize their presence and avoid detection.

Like nearly all extraction games, Nakwon is PvPvE, so you will have more to worry about than just zombies. Nexon has a pretty mixed reputation overall, but it has developed and published a few great games. Nakwon is entering a relatively crowded genre that is threatening to become overexposed, and January of this year even produced a zombie extraction shooter called The Midnight Walkers. However, the move to third-person action and, potentially, slower-paced action could help set Nakwon apart from its contemporaries.

Graveyard Keeper 2

The Cemetery Beckons

Now, for something a touch different. The slate of future zombie games is largely defined by horror and shooters set in decrepit alternate realities of our present day. However, as shown by Stupid Never Dies, zombie games can be colorful and even a bit silly, and they don’t get much sillier than Graveyard Keeper. Yeah, we will soon be stepping back into medieval times to take charge of a medieval cemetery; this time around, players will be the Grand Inquisitor, giving them more power and responsibility.

As with the original game, Graveyard Keeper 2 is a macabre management sim that replaces farms with graveyards and crops with corpses. The kingdom is currently in a spot of bother due to a zombie apocalypse, a threat that most towns aren’t equipped to handle. However, you have the tools and the will to create, expand, prosper, and defend, a process that involves creating your own zombie army!

Projekt Z: Beyond Order

Exciting In-Development Co-Op Zombie First-Person Shooter

Hard to imagine that a game simply called Projekt Z will be released too soon, but this World War II zombie shooter has made quite the impression with its trailers. Not only does it provide a captivating atmosphere that infuses a bit of horror into the well-threaded genre setting, but visually, the game offers beautiful lighting and textures.

All Big Upcoming PC Games For 2026 & Beyond

PC players have hundreds of new Steam games to look forward to in 2026. We are talking basically every genre imaginable.

The developers are a fresh new German indie studio called 314 Arts comprised of nine total employees. It’ll offer both single-player and online co-op zombie killing spectacles as players try to uncover Nazi secrets hidden on an occupied island.

Showa American Story

A Zombie Game For People Who Want Action

Now, here is an upcoming zombie game that could turn some heads, provided it is backed by quality. From the same developer responsible for the polarizing Dying: Reborn, Showa American Story envisions a future where Japan and the United States have effectively fused, with the former buying out most of the latter. Honestly, this is a fascinating premise in its own right and could have made for an interesting experience without incorporating any other twists. However, Showa American Story goes the extra mile by introducing a post-apocalyptic element, along with a female protagonist who wakes up from the dead without any real knowledge about what has happened to the world.

Going by its description and available footage, Showa American Story seems to be a hack-and-slash RPG, with the combat system blending third-person shooting with fast-paced melee combat that seems reminiscent of something like Onechanbara. Nekcom is a fairly small company, so it is recommended to keep expectations relatively realistic. Showa American Story will likely aim to deliver a B-movie, along with maybe some Yakuza-esque humor. That is all well and good, and it should make for a fun and silly ride.

Holstin

An Upcoming Zombie Game That Blends 2D And 3D

Be it party-based shooters or open-world survival projects, zombie games can threaten to blend into one, particularly high-profile releases. Fortunately, Holstin does not have that issue, and only a glance is required to notice the game’s unique presentation.

Pixel graphics are heavily used by the indie scene, so Holstin turning to this art style hardly sets it apart from the crowd; however, the execution is ultimately all that matters. Sonka has not only put together some gorgeous isometric visuals, but the developer has also incorporated 3D support. Yes, players can swap between the two perspectives, changing from an all-encompassing viewpoint that is perfect for puzzles to a behind-the-shoulder camera for third-person shooting gameplay.

30 Incredible PC Games That Will Run on a Potato Laptop

You don’t need a monstrous PC to see some of the best the platform has to offer. Today, let’s cover the best low-end PC games.

The setting is fresh as well, with the story dropping players in a ’90s Polish town that has fallen into dark times (literally and figuratively). Some residents have transformed into full-blown zombie-like monsters, while others seem to be in the process of losing their humanity. Holstin seems to incorporate classic touches from survival horror, be it scavenging, limited ammo, a vulnerable protagonist, and puzzles.
