The Blood of Dawnwalker Announces Last Minute Performance Mode Change

Rebel Wolves addresses the controversy regarding the console frame rate targets, confirming that the day one update for Blood of Dawnwalker will now see an enhanced Performance Mode. There’s been plenty of anticipation surrounding the first title from Rebel Wolves, a studio led by Konrad Tomaszkiewicz previously of The WItcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. However, The Blood of Dawnwalker has seemingly stumbled into a bit of controversy as of late, something which Rebel Wolves has been keen to address.

With a rapidly approaching release date of September 3, Rebel Wolves has continued to release new videos showcasing parts of the game. In an “Everything You Need To Know” video, it was confirmed that The Blood of Dawnwalker will have two graphics modes for consoles, a 30FPS Quality Mode and a 40FPS Performance Mode. While the PS5 Pro will have additional graphical enhancements, including a dynamic 4K resolution, fans were ultimately left a bit disappointed by a lack of 60 FPS support. Thankfully, there appears to be a happy resolution for fans in the end.

The Blood of Dawnwalker Improves Performance Mode on Consoles

Responding to the new fan frustration, the official Blood of Dawnwalker social media account confirms that the Day One update will now include a boost to Performance Mode, which will “target” 60 FPS on PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X. Unfortunately for Xbox Series S players, they won’t be seeing the improvement as the Performance Mode will continues to target 30FPS. As a recap, the PS5 Pro, PS5, and Xbox Series X will now have 3 graphical options to pick from, the aforementioned Quality Mode at 30 FPS, the new Performance Mode at 60 FPS, and a mix of both called Balanced, which will top out at 40 FPS.

Rebel Wolves thanked fans for their feedback and confirmed that the news surrounding console performance was based on what was already confirmed and ready for launch. While an enhancement to Performance Mode was always in the works, it was currently undergoing testing, so the studio was wary about promising a feature that wasn’t finished. Based on fan feedback and how much it mattered to players, Rebel Wolves focused on finishing the testing and the results were positive, confirming it would be ready for the launch date of The Blood of Dawnwalker after all.

Despite being a new IP from a brand-new studio, The Blood of Dawnwalker is attempting to rise above the suddenly crowded release schedule of September and October. Not only is it launching at the very start of the rush, the studio is also made up of veterans of CD Projekt RED, who previously worked on huge titles like The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. Not only that, The Blood of Dawnwalker is introducing an open world that attempts to mix things up and potentially answer to potential fatigue.

PC Gamers Have Limited Time to Claim Horror Game for Free

As part of that, The Blood of Dawnwalker adds a 30-day time limit, an in-game timer that ticks down before Coen’s family is killed by Brencis and his enemy faction. While that sounds potentially stressful on paper, players have control over the clock as performing different actions or taking on quests and activities add segments to the clock, reducing the time left. Outside of that, players are free to explore without the clock ticking down. However, one thing to keep in mind is, regardless if the player saves their family or not, the game doesn’t actually end there. Based on what happens, new content will unlock, and if players are feeling confident enough, they can even storm Brencis’ castle after the tutorial portion, though Rebel Wolves warns that this will be incredibly challenging to pull off.
