The Blood of Dawnwalker was released on September 3, and despite being younger than a week old, developer Rebel Wolves is already moving ahead with a sequel. Given that some game sequels take decades to make or that sometimes desired sequels never come, many may be surprised to hear that The Blood of Dawnwalker team is already moving on (if at a small scale now, to support the main release).
Then again, it makes sense looking at the success of the new vampire game. Surprisingly, it appears to be one of those rare games where general critical consensus lines up with popular opinion. On Metacritic, Blood of Dawnwalker‘s reviews give it a generally favorable 83 Metascore among 63 critics, and it has a 8.2 user score among nearly 600 games. That’s impressive and seemingly assisted sales too, with Blood of Dawnwalker crossing 1 million copies sold within the first weekend of its release. As such, continuing on is clearly the right choice—although it was always Rebel Wolves’ intent.
The Next Chapter for the Dawnwalker Saga Has Already Taken Its First Step Forward
Earlier this year, Rebel Wolves revealed that The Blood of Dawnwalker was intended to be the first release in The Dawnwalker Saga that explored multiple locations and years (almost Assassin’s Creed-like) through its vampiric lore. It is also believed that some choices will carry over and define world states as the Saga expands. How it shakes out exactly remains to be seen, but Narrative Director Jakub Szamalek recently announced that the team is not “resting on [their] laurels – no, siree!” on LinkedIn.

Szamalek announced that he is looking for a Lead Writer (job posting available in the original LinkedIn post above) to help him “and the narrative team craft the next chapter in the Dawnwalker Saga.” In theory, “chapter” could mean some other kind of release within The Blood of Dawnwalker, but by specifying the Dawnwalker Saga and understanding the context of its franchise plans, it seems the team wants to keep trucking along. Of course, games take years to develop and this is the first of first steps for the next chapter, but fans can rest assured that Rebel Wolves is sticking to its guns, sticking to its plans, and sticking to its fangs.
Based on prior announcements, it seems likely that this next chapter leaves Vale Sangora behind and travels outside 14th-century Europe. Where it goes next is undetermined at this time, but new situational context, a new world, and a brand-new atmosphere is a great way to expand its vampiric lore and expand on gameplay choice without feeling too trapped by a narrative. Ultimately it remains to be seen, but hopefully this early success goes further in cementing Blood of Dawnwalker as a great RPG franchise.
Rebel Wolves was founded in 2022 by a bunch of former CDPR/The Witcher 3 developers, and to say the gaming industry has been tumultuous since then would be an understatement. To ship anything is a miracle, but to found a studio, to ship a great game, to establish itself, to establish a new IP, and to hit solid successful benchmarks with a “debut title,” with everything else going on in the industry and world, requires more than a “miracle.” In this case, it took a bunch of Rebel Wolves’ industry knowledge and hard work.
