A brand-new Avatar: The Last Airbender release is scheduled for July 23, adding to what is already an exciting year for fans of the franchise. Avatar: The Last Airbender originated as a critically-acclaimed cartoon on Nickelodeon, but it quickly exploded into a multimedia franchise with significant merchandising, live-action adaptations, spin-offs, video games, and more.
Avatar: The Last Airbender is still extremely popular over 20 years since the first episode premiered on Nickelodeon, with multiple projects tied to the franchise releasing this year. The second season of the Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action series on Netflix is scheduled to premiere on June 25, while Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender will premiere on Paramount+ on October 9. Avatar Aang actually leaked online already, and while that’s definitely disappointing for the people that worked hard on the project, the good news is that fans were very happy with that they saw and have heaped a ton of praise on the film. The positive word of mouth could go a long way in ensuring that the Avatar Aang movie is a hit when it lands on Paramount+, potentially paving the way for even more Avatar projects.

Some Fire Lords are prodigies who torched the world, while others care more about benevolence and political grace than slinging the hottest flames.
Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is Close to Release
As far as Avatar: The Last Airbender video games go, the next big project is Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, scheduled to launch on July 23 after being delayed from its previously-announced July 2 release date. Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is a 1v1 2D fighter featuring a variety of characters from the franchise, including those that didn’t appear until the sequel series, The Legend of Korra. Releasing at a budget price of $29.99, what’s been shown so far of Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game has looked faithful to the source material, and many fans seem excited to give it a shot.
Those already sold on the premise of an Avatar: The Last Airbender fighting game don’t have to wait until July 23 to play it. A closed beta will be held from July 2 to July 5 on PS5, Steam, and Xbox Series X/S platforms. To get access to the closed beta, all you need to do is pre-order the game. This could be a good way for fans to try the game out without committing to a final purchase. If they like it, they can keep their pre-order. If not, there is plenty of time to cancel between the beta dates and the July 23 release date.
There are other reasons to pre-order Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game beyond just beta access. Players also get the Samurai Appa skin, exclusive color variants for Aang, Korra, Zuko, Katara, Toph, and Sokka, plus the ability to vote on a character that will be included in the Year 1 Pass. For some it may very well be worth it, though others may want to wait for reviews.
Regardless, it’s exciting to have a new Avatar: The Last Airbender video game on the horizon. There’s been some confusion about the Avatar: The Last Airbender AAA RPG, with some claims that it has been canceled and others that it is still in development, so hopefully the fighting game can tide fans over while they wait for more clarification.
