The Sims 4 Maker Program Will Allow Content Creators to Sell Mods for the Game

The Sims 4 Maker Program Will Allow Content Creators to Sell Mods for the Game

The Sims 4 is adding a special program called The Marketplace that gives creators a space to sell some of their customized in-game content, opening up a lot of new possibilities for players to easily find the perfect additions to their homes and neighborhoods. The ability to make stylistically pleasing homes and community spaces is one of the major aspects of The Sims 4‘s popularity, and The Marketplace will allow content creators to actually see a real-world profit from providing their services.

Custom content has been a part of The Sims franchise since its first game was released in 2000. The life simulator series has built a strong community around the creativity of its players’ abilities to make fun and interesting Sims, furniture, and other pieces, and the steady popularity of The Sims 4 has led to an even greater reliance on its community for producing custom content. Since October 2024, The Sims 4 has been offering Creator Kits, low-priced collections of custom-made objects and Create-a-Sim options developed by independent community members outside Maxis.

These Are the Highest-Paying Sims 4 Careers As of March 2026

A new chart from The Sims 4 gives a detailed ranking of every career in the life simulation game, showing off the most lucrative job options.

Starting on March 17, players will have a new way to get their hands on custom content made by their favorite creators. The Marketplace will be an in-game space that will allow players to easily find and purchase original in-game content that has been made by community members and sourced and tested by the game’s official development team. What’s more, content purchased from The Marketplace will be integrated automatically into the game, and will not require players to exit and restart to begin using it immediately, unlike with unofficial mods. A new in-game currency, called Moolah, will be available for purchase with real-world money, and using it to buy custom content from The Marketplace will financially benefit independent The Sims 4 custom content creators.

Anyone is welcome to sign up for The Sims 4‘s Maker program, and EA has tried to make the process of creating custom content in The Sims 4 easier, even for beginners. There are a number of different free tools and stencils that have been made available to creators by Maxis, and the official development team has added support guides that will help them learn how to use these tools to create custom furniture, objects, clothing, hair, makeup, and more. Applications for the Maker Program open on March 5.

Players will still be able to obtain custom content and mods for The Sims 4 without using The Marketplace. As explained by production lead Nyzelle, nothing will be changing regarding permissions to install or use mods or other custom content obtained from outside, independent sources. Players will still be able to add Sims and lots, including those made with custom content, from The Gallery for free. Additionally, there will still be official kits developed by the team at Maxis, along with more free content drops.

The Sims 4 Giving Away Free Items for a Limited Time

The addition of The Marketplace may be a move by Maxis and EA to welcome talented creators back into the fold following EA’s $55 billion sale in late 2025 to a private investor group made up of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake Partners, and Affinity Partners. That business deal was interpreted by many in the game’s community as a political move, as U.S. President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, was a founding member of Affinity, and many talented creators and players publicly announced their exit after the deal was made public. However, The Sims 4 team has tried to reassure creators that their values have not changed despite the new ownership, and The Marketplace may be an incentive intended to welcome back those who have left, reward those who have stayed, and attract in a new batch of talent.
