The Witcher 3 Songs of the Past Gamescom Booth Sparks Popular Fan Theory

Ahead of Gamescom 2026, an under construction booth for CD Projekt RED appeared online, showcasing new artwork for the upcoming Songs of the Past DLC of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, kicking off a new theory. Even with The Witcher 4 in active development, CD Projekt RED is planning to showcase its upcoming Songs of the Past expansion later this month, leaving The Witcher 3 fans to speculate and craft new theories on what the new content could feature.

10 years after the launch of the Blood and Wine expansion, CD Projekt RED officially announced the Songs of the Past DLC for The Witcher 3. The announcement itself surprised many fans, who had previously been tipped off about potential new content coming to The Witcher 3 after a number of reports surfaced online back in 2025. However, not much was revealed about the upcoming expansion outside the official keyart, depicting Geralt with 3 swords and what appears to be some wooden monster over his shoulder. CDPR also promised a full reveal of Songs of the Past at Gamescom, leaving fans to largely speculate about where this new content could take players inside the Witcher universe.

The Witcher 4’s Open World Just Got Some Good News

The Witcher 4 developer is expanding on its open-world gameplay, and the latest news on that front is extremely positive for the upcoming RPG.

The Witcher 3 Songs of the Past Could Be Teasing Belleteyn

A new image has appeared online, showing CD Projekt RED’s massive Gamescom booth as it is being constructed ahead of the show. While it’s still being assembled, the image highlights the massive artwork for The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past expansion, with one side highlighting the new expansion pack logo, and the other side which has now set the community alight on what it could be teasing. The artwork depicts what appears to be a celebration, with people at some sort of lake or body of water, wearing wreaths with candles, boats, and a general celebratory atmosphere.

The new artwork has given the community its first clue, with many firmly believing that the Songs of the Past DLC could feature the Belleteyn festival, which has only been mentioned in the game to this point. Comments on the image across social media have pointed to the possibility of the fertility festival being a big part of the narrative, coincidentally, it also being the birthday of both Ciri and Yennefer as well. CDPR has been tight-lipped about this DLC, though plenty of rumors and speculation has indicated that players will be heading to the coastal city of Cidaris and that Dandelion will feature prominently in the story. Regardless, just the slight tease of the festival has been enough to send most fans into full-on excitement.

Originally planned for launch in 2026, Songs of the Past was actually delayed into 2027 to help CDPR “achieve the best possible result.” Being co-developed alongside Fool’s Theory, a studio made up of former Witcher 3 veterans, the new 2027 launch date could actually be a boon, with Songs of the Past serving more as an appetizer before the main course of The Witcher 4 arrives later in the year.

Regardless, Songs of the Past could be the final time fans get to see Geralt in the lead role, as The Witcher 4 has previously shown off an older Ciri as the lead protagonist. While there’s certainly plenty more that CDPR has yet to reveal about The Witcher 4, the game clearly takes place in the future, with an older Ciri who is still learning the ropes as a monster hunter while exploring new regions like Kovir. However, it has been previously confirmed that Doug Cockle will reprise his role as Geralt, though how big of a presence the character will have isn’t yet known.
