The Witcher 3 fans believe they may be getting a long-awaited update on the rumored new DLC for 2026, and if so, that could be happening on May 28. CD Projekt Red has not so much as hinted at this DLC, though, and it’s possibly all copium given that the next Cyberpunk game and The Witcher 4 are still a long time coming. But a little hope is not so bad.
The rumors of a possible The Witcher 3 DLC in 2026 mostly come from a cluster of Polish gaming insiders and repeated industry leaks rather than any official CD Projekt Red announcement. Many have claimed that a new DLC is in the works to bridge the events between The Witcher 3 and The Witcher 4, introducing a new region and telling a story surrounding the passing of the torch to Ciri. Others then reported that there was an expansion in the works, alongside a CDPR financial update that some think make his is a possibility. CDPR has not commented on this Witcher 3 rumor at all, though doing so is also unnecessary, but fans are certainly hopeful.

The hope comes from a newly announced “special anniversary stream” of The Witcher 3, specifically the Blood and Wine expansion. It takes place on May 28 at 8 am PT/11 am ET in the United States, which is 5 pm CEST. The stream will see environmental artist Kacper Niepokolczycki and senior writer/story coordinator Magdalena Zych playing the expansion. And while that could be all this stream ultimately is, fans aren’t letting go of the fact that such a stream could be a place to announce or tease new DLC. Yes, the “special” in special anniversary stream could just be because it’s a unique stream, or it could be because there’s a special announcement planned for it.

The response to the announcement of the livestream is thinking exactly that. On Twitter, the top response with 344 reactions is an image by @Ponvyr asking if they are being baited again. “Please tell me this means something for the new DLC!!!,” wrote @n7ciri, and @HoundBloth6 also chimed in with, “I’LL DO ANYTHING WITCHER 3 FINAL DLC” alongside an image of Homelander from The Boys finale (so spoiler warning if you head to Twitter) for this announcement. Whether or not this happens remains to be seen, but hopefully the reaction to it not happening, if so, is tame.
Recently, a bunch of gamers convinced themselves the recent Game Informer cover story reveal would be GTA 6, and it wasn’t—it was my most anticipated game of the year, The Blood of Dawnwalker, which is made by former CDPR devs. The problem is they made it up that the reveal would be GTA 6, and then got angry when it wasn’t. Because CDPR has said nothing about the DLC rumors, it bears repeating that such a reaction should be avoided. It could be a simple stream, and that’s a nice celebration of The Witcher 3 in and of itself.

If a new Witcher 3 DLC is announced there, then yes, the hype would be unreal. GameRant readers recently voted The Witcher 3 as the #3 best game of all time, so the hype for new content is there. The approach to said content makes sense. But The Witcher‘s future is as equally important as returning to The Witcher 3…which no one is being stopped from doing regardless, just FYI.
