CD Projekt Red has shared a promising update on the development of The Witcher 4, revealing that its development team has expanded considerably in order to produce the game. While gamers likely won’t get their hands on The Witcher 4 for quite some time, this is one more step in the right direction.
The Witcher is a famed franchise among gamers at this point, though it got its start as a novel series by author Andrzej Sapkowski. Though The Witcher 3 released over a decade ago, gamers still hold it in extremely high regard, and have been eagerly awaiting more. The next game will step away from Geralt, who gamers played as for the first three games, and hands the lead role to Ciri. The development of her game is well underway, with the latest evidence being this new reveal from its developer.

Some new details emerge regarding the mysterious new IP Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher studio CD Projekt Red is currently developing.
The Witcher 4 Development Team is Growing
CD Projekt Red has now revealed during a financial report to investors that The Witcher 4 now has a development team of a whopping 499 individuals. The Witcher 4 on its own has gained 88 new developers since the end of February 2025. Looking at the overall numbers, over half of the developers working for CD Projekt Red are now working on The Witcher 4, with the company reporting it had 933 developers across all projects as of February 28, 2026. Most of its teams have gained members, including that of Project Sirius, the placeholder name for its planned Witcher multiplayer game, which has seen its team expand from 49 to 71 over the course of a year. The exceptions are its Hadar project, which has gone from 29 to 26, losing three members, while its “Other” category has seen another three members exit or move.

While these latest numbers shed some light on exactly how many people are working on The Witcher 4, there have been prior indications that CD Projekt Red has been amping up its development team in a big way. Between December 2025 and now, The Witcher 4‘s development team has added numerous developers from well-loved games released by other studios. This includes the addition of Baldur’s Gate 3 cinematic director Felix Pedulla, former Blizzard composer Russell Brower, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 cinematic animator Lucie Hennet. It’s not known how many developers that have been added to the team have such accolades, but it’s clear that CD Projekt Red has sought out team members who have brought some of the most successful games in recent history to life.
While most players are eyeing The Witcher 4, as it’s currently CD Projekt Red’s focus, it’s not the only game that’s gradually gaining new team members. The development team for Cyberpunk 2 has also grown over the last couple of years. In October 2025, the dev team for Cyberpunk 2 had risen from 116 to 135, and this new report indicates that has now increased to 149. Cyberpunk 2 is only in the pre-production stage, so there’s a good chance that its full development team may ultimately be as big or bigger than what The Witcher 4 is currently working with. However, given that the game could still be many years away, that may not be the case for quite some time yet.
An official release window for The Witcher 4 hasn’t yet been announced, but if CD Projekt Red’s plan goes like it wants it to, players will be getting a bevy of new Witcher content. During a prior earnings call, the co-CEO of CD Projekt Red noted that the studio was planning to release three new Witcher games, starting with The Witcher 4, over the course of a six-year span. The Witcher 4 will likely have the longest development time of the three, with the remaining two being able to take advantage of the work laid down for the fourth game. While there’s still some time to wait, players have a lot to look forward to.
