CD Projekt joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski has commented on how the studio thinks about artificial intelligence when it comes to developing games.
Speaking during CD Projekt’s latest earnings briefing, the executive said AI is “definitely becoming a thing in games development.” However, he stressed that the Polish developer is still “predominantly using people” to make games.
“AI, if anything, is a tool like many others that’s helping in places that can maybe become more helpful in the future but we’re not planning to rely on AI making complete games,” he said, as reported by PC Gamer.
Nowakowski said CD Projekt makes “very complex games,” and using AI would not be “the right or ethical path to follow.”
At the same time, Nowakowski said every studio–or at least its management–will decide for itself how it wants to use, or not use, AI.
“So whether this is true for the whole industry, I’m not the person to make those statements. I think everybody has to make those judgments on their own,” he said.
The Witcher 4 is set for release in 2028, and it kicks off a new trilogy of games. CD Projekt is also working on Cyberpunk 2 and a multiplayer Witcher game.
