This Diablo 4 Unique is Probably Killing You

Diablo 4 Season 14 players need to be aware that the Wendigo Brand Unique could be killing them accidentally. As it stands, the popular Diablo 4 Unique is seemingly causing some surprising deaths, with Blizzard now confirming that it’s aware of the issue and an investigation is underway.

Wendigo Brand was first introduced as a new Diablo 4 Unique in Season 12 – the Season of Slaughter. Its unique effect is supposed to give increased Damage and Maximum Life by a certain percentage for every 15 kills in the last 50 seconds. In theory, this is excellent for farming huge waves of enemies in quick succession, but in practice, something hasn’t been quite right with the Unique for a little while now.

Diablo 4 Season 14’s S-Tier Necromancer Build Puts the ‘Death’ in Season of Death Awakening

Diablo 4’s Necromancer has an S-Tier build in Season 14 that is incredibly appropriate for the Season of Death Awakening theme.

Diablo 4’s Wendigo Brand Unique is Still Killing Players, Blizzard Confirms Investigation

A recent Reddit post by user DontHateDefenestrate re-raised the problem of the Wendigo Brand Unique draining players’ current health when the stacks expire, as opposed to reducing maximum life back to normal levels. They had tested the issue, claiming that “the damage ticks stop precisely when this buff expires,” with just about everyone in the thread agreeing on what seems to be happening in-game. Some had reported dying due to this issue, which would be extremely frustrating. Perhaps most interesting is that a look through the subreddit confirms that similar posts from around four months ago reported the exact same problem, indicating that the item has been broken the entire time it has been in the game.

The good news is that, while players have been complaining about this issue for a little while now, Blizzard has finally acknowledged that an investigation is underway. In a recent forum post about Wendigo Brand’s apparent issue draining life when at max stacks, Community Manager Marcoose thanked players for their reports, confirming that the “team is looking into this.”

It’s no secret that Diablo 4 Season 14 has left players seriously frustrated for a variety of reasons. Having a glitch like this still in the game is always going to compound those frustrations, even if it only affects a few players who have integrated the Wendigo Brand into their build for the current season. Still, it’s good to know that the developer is aware and hopefully working on a fix, despite the sentiment being that it should have been fixed a long time ago.

While Diablo 4 Season 14 has undoubtedly been very rocky, there’s no reason to believe it will be the norm for the game going forward. It’s worth remembering that Blizzard had been on a hot streak in the few seasons prior, with most seasonal mechanics being very well-received by players. Hopefully, the yet-to-be-revealed Season 15 will mark a return to form for Blizzard, taking all the lessons and feedback learned this season on board.
