There was a time when GTA 6 felt like it might never actually arrive, and yet it has officially hit a milestone on its road to release that many never thought it would. Developer Rockstar Games spent years letting rumors, leaks, and fan theories build fan hype ahead of official updates, with Grand Theft Auto 6 becoming one of those games that seemed to exist everywhere except in players’ hands. Two trailers later, a solid slate of screenshots, and an official release date of November 19 (although many fear another release date delay for GTA 6), and it’s almost here.
Rockstar Games and publisher Take-Two Interactive have confirmed that the next update is on August 27 when GTA 6: The Extended Look drops on Netflix. That’s the next major stop on this trip, but August 11 also marks a specific milestone for GTA 6: its last 100-day stretch.
GTA 6 Has Entered Its Final 100 Days Before Release
As of August 11, GTA 6 has officially entered its final 100-day stretch until November 19, marking the end of the old era and the beginning of a new one. August 12 will mark 99 days, meaning fans will officially be in double-digit days until the game’s planned release date. Assuming marketing does indeed ramp up after the Netflix special, the last 100 days before GTA 6‘s release are going to feel very different from the years that came before them. There is still plenty that fans don’t know about the next Grand Theft Auto. Vice City is expected to be Rockstar’s biggest open world yet, while Jason and Lucia’s story will introduce a new criminal partnership for the series. After more than a decade of speculation, players are finally close enough to release that the remaining mysteries could soon have answers, and the game release itself will no doubt bring new mysteries into the franchise.

The second GTA 6 trailer gave fans a much closer look at Vice City, its characters, vehicles, activities, and story, but it also created even more questions about what will actually be waiting when the game launches. Rockstar has traditionally kept some of its biggest surprises hidden until players get their hands on a game, and GTA 6 has already shown just how much detail can be packed into even a short trailer. The Extended Look, which Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has described as an extended trailer for GTA 6, is expected to take all of that to the next level, complete with the first official gameplay reveal.
This new countdown also puts GTA 6′s enormous expectations into perspective. Grand Theft Auto 5 has spent more than a decade becoming one of the biggest entertainment products ever released, while GTA Online has continued to bring players back years after the original game’s launch. GTA 6 isn’t simply following one of gaming’s most successful games; it is arriving after years of anticipation and will immediately be compared against a franchise that has become almost impossible to ignore. For fans, the final 100 days will probably bring plenty of new theories, screenshots, trailer breakdowns, and speculation about what Rockstar has yet to reveal. Some of those theories will undoubtedly be completely wrong (as is tradition), while others may end up being surprisingly close to the truth.
After all this time, GTA 6 is finally close enough for a proper countdown. The next 100 days could reveal more about Vice City, GTA 6‘s protagonists Jason and Lucia, and the game’s massive world, but the biggest change is simply that the waiting is almost over. Rockstar has spent years building anticipation for its next Grand Theft Auto 6, and now fans can finally start counting the days instead of the years.
