Tomodachi Life Fans Are Already Running Wild With Its Character Creator

Tomodachi Life Fans Are Already Running Wild With Its Character Creator

Tomodachi Life: Living The Dream is nearly upon us, but Nintendo has already given its ravenous fans a demo with robust character-creation tools that allows them to make and carry their creations over into the full release. That being the case, players have already made tremendous use of the demo’s character creator, making both gorgeous and grotesque Miis as they recreate celebrities, fictional characters, and maybe even a secret third thing.

Sharing these creations hasn’t been as easy as you’d expect, thanks to Nintendo’s anti-image-sharing policy that stands to hamper Tomodachi Life: Living The Dream’s reach online. Though players can typically use the share button on their Nintendo Switch system to post images or video to social media with relative ease, the company is cracking down on this function over worries that Tomodachi Life’s lax filters–allowing characters to be called some decidedly NSFW terms, which the Miis then say aloud–will enable players to share material that could erode the “fun and safe” online environment it is trying to cultivate.

Despite this, folks have been sharing their creations to the best of their ability. In perhaps the most obvious move, many players have immediately taken to making characters from other Nintendo games. We’ve got our Marios, Bowsers, and other favorites present. Astonishingly, one person even recreated their own Animal Crossing villager as opposed to the generic one. Like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate promises, everyone is here.

Pokemon is, in reality, its own thing and it is even one of the biggest brands in the entire world. It is still pretty synonymous with Nintendo though, which makes it unsurprising to see Tomodachi Life players adapting characters and creatures from the series to the life sim.

Tomodachi Life’s powerful character-creation tool is especially good at faces, which has led to a number of players painting faces like Pikachu or Incineroar onto human bodies. One player did such a good job on Latias’ face that they just had to draw over the screenshot and finish the job.

Speaking of Pokemon, does MissingNo count?

Of course, video game characters outside of Nintendo’s properties have also been pretty popular. If you really enjoyed Resident Evil: Requiem and wanted to see more of the series’ iconic characters, there’s a pretty intense-looking Chris Redfield render out there. Unfortunately, I’ve yet to see a really astonishingly hot Leon Kennedy, but I’m sure it’s in the works, folks.

We’ve also got the likes of some new faces though, including Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s Gustave and Kris of Deltarune! Moreover, some artists have foregone recreating characters with simpler, humanoid features, as you can see in this post with Miis in the style of Darkest Dungeon.

In the short time that players have had the demo to Tomodachi Life: Living The Dream, I’ve already seen quite a number of Miis inspired by anime. I’ve seen the occasional Frieren cameos, as well as the boys (and Nobara!) from Jujutsu Kaisen, proving once and for all that the venn diagram between these communities might just be one big ol’ circle. My favorite though is one of Naruto’s creepiest and most iconic villains.

In the same realm, Western cartoon characters have also proven to be pretty popular. I don’t watch Smiling Friends myself, but that weird little purple guy literally keeps showing up everywhere, sometimes in really gross detail. I’ve also seen Garfield in the wild, as well as what appears to be a Decepticon. Seriously, how are players making this stuff before the game is even fully released?

The Tomodachi series are games, like The Sims, where players are encouraged to incorporate their own observations from the world around them. At times, that might even mean recreating friends, family, and partners in-game. Other times, that might mean implementing celebrities that we might recognize from film, TV, music, or even just YouTube.

And then there are of course, players who have ignored all these pretty standard prompts and decided to swing for the fences. Some of these results are outright chilling, but more often than not, they are brazenly humorous and gel pretty well with Tomodachi Life’s penchant for bizarre, offbeat jokes.

In short, you can get pretty creative with Tomodachi Life: Living The Dream’s character creator. The sky is most certainly not the limit, and I’m looking forward to seeing what weird and otherwise intensely detailed characters folks will be making once they get their hands on the full game when it releases later this month!
