Twitch has announced that the price of Tier 1 subscriptions will be increased in 35 countries, including the US, New Zealand, Brazil, and various European nations, starting July 11. The Twitch subscription price increases will vary depending on each user’s home country, with US-based users going from $4.99 to $5.99 monthly for each Tier 1 subscription.
The move comes months after Twitch already increased the price of Tier 1 subscriptions on March 28 for users in the UK, Canada, and Australia. The price increases were automatically applied to users with recurring subscriptions, with no further action needed. According to Twitch, the price increase was done in response to the increased cost of living and to bolster streamer revenue. However, Twitch pointed out that a price increase for users in the US and various parts of Europe was imminent, but did not specify at the time when those changes would take effect.

Despite Twitch not being a profitable company, the Amazon-owned streaming service is still taking steps to keep streamers on the platform. According to a Twitch support post, Tier 1 monthly subscriptions will go from $4.99 to $5.99 starting Thursday, July 11. As with the March 28 price bump, Twitch subscribers will not need to take any action to see changes in their subscriber fees. However, an email from Twitch to users in affected countries stated that this price increase will not affect Tier 2 or Tier 3 subscriptions at the time of writing. Those subscriptions will retain their monthly rates of $9.99 and $24.99 in the US. Prime subscriptions on Twitch will also remain as is.
Twitch Tier 1 Subscription Costs Are Going Up
Although Twitch users in the US will see a 20% increase in Tier 1 subscriptions, Twitter user Zach Bussey said that Slovakia and Slovenia will have a 43% price increase in their subscriptions. Bussey added that a 25% increase will be seen in 25 nations, including Brazil, Mexico, Chile, and several European countries. Twitch also clarified that the price increases will give Affiliates and Partners a proportionate earning split, depending on Plus program eligibility. While some Twitch users on social media were glad to see content creators getting additional revenue, others were upset by the increased cost of subscriptions. Some users pointed out that the price changes forced them to unsubscribe to some streamers to stick within their budgets.
Twitch stated that an episode of Patch Notes would be held on Wednesday, June 12, to answer any questions concerning the Tier 1 subscription changes. While Twitch has addressed the need for better tools to combat bans and other problems, what the Amazon-owned service will do in the future remains to be seen.
