Ubisoft is shutting down one of its studios and laying off developers at another. Ubisoft is one of the biggest video game companies in the world and home to some of the most-recognizable franchises. Ubisoft’s bread-and-butter are the open world Assassin’s Creed games, but the company is also well-known for its various Tom Clancy projects, Just Dance, Prince of Persia, and Rayman, with the latter set to have a new game release in the near future.
While it was originally supposed to launch in October, Rayman Legends Retold is now releasing on December 3 alongside a free copy of Rayman Origins: Enhanced Edition. Rayman Legends Retold is a remake of the critically-acclaimed Rayman Legends, which first released in 2013. The pair of Rayman games will cap off a busy year for Ubisoft, marked by major new game releases like Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, notable game cancellations, and significant layoffs.
Ubisoft RedLynx is Reportedly Shutting Down

Unfortunately, the Ubisoft layoffs are not over. It’s been confirmed by Eurogamer that Ubisoft Singapore, the studio behind Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, is losing 70 positions. Additionally, it’s been confirmed that Ubisoft’s RedLynx studio is being completely shut down. RedLynx shutting down will reportedly impact 52 positions at Ubisoft. RedLynx released its first game all the way back in the year 2000, with Ubisoft acquiring the studio in 2011. If RedLynx had any games in development, they had not been revealed to the public, so it’s hard to say if anything is being canceled by this shutdown.

RedLynx was best known for its Trials game series, which were physics-based racing games that almost functioned as puzzle-platformers at the same time. The Trials games took off with the release of Trials HD on Xbox 360, which many consider one of the best Xbox Live Arcade games. RedLynx kept the Trials series going strong with Trials Evolution, Trials Fusion, Trials Rising, and various other Trials projects. The studio also made mobile games for Ubisoft, like South Park: Phone Destroyer and more recently, Gwen’s Getaway, which launched in 2023.
The last major release released by RedLynx was Trials Rising in 2019, and so it’s been a whopping seven years without major console releases from the studio. The time since then was spent working on The Division 2‘s Stadia port, which no longer exists since Google Stadia itself has shut down, and the aforementioned Gwen’s Getaway, which is a cozy puzzle game for Android and iOS mobile devices.
With the Ubisoft layoffs and shutdowns largely defining the company in 2026, one has to wonder what 2027 will look like. Ubisoft doesn’t have many games confirmed for release next year, but the latest rumors suggest that Assassin’s Creed Hexe is a 2027 release.
