Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced will have a somewhat different ending than the original game, according to a senior Ubisoft official. While the remake is still expected to hit many of the same narrative beats, Black Flag Resynced will change and expand on parts of Assassin’s Creed 4‘s ending.

Following well over a year’s worth of rumors and leaks, Ubisoft officially announced Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced in late April 2026. From the moment of its reveal, the company framed the game not as a one-to-one remake, but as a modernized version of the 2013 original that refines and expands on its most popular aspects while reworking features that have aged poorly or were never particularly well-received to begin with. For instance, the remake drops the original game’s playable modern-day Abstergo office sequences in favor of a more Edward-focused narrative, while still connecting his memories to the Animus through new optional rifts.

Black Flag Not the Only Assassin’s Creed Remake Currently in Development, It Is Claimed

Another remake of a classic Assassin’s Creed game is currently in the works alongside Black Flag Resynced, according to multiple trusted sources.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Will Include New Ending Chapter

Even though Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced will not include playable modern-day segments, the developers still aim to preserve the original game’s core narrative beats while expanding on them in new ways. Ubisoft Singapore Creative Director Paul Fu outlined that approach in a recent interview with Game File. According to Fu, Black Flag Resynced will feature “a brand-new endgame chapter” called “A World Without Gold,” a phrase fans may recognize from one of the final monologues near the end of Assassin’s Creed 4.

Assassin’s Creed 4 Lead Writer Wrote a New Ending Scene for Black Flag Resynced

Fu also revealed that Black Flag Resynced will feature a new ending scene written by Darby McDevitt, the lead writer of both the original game and the upcoming remake. Without getting into specific spoilers, the official said the scene will hint at one important character’s “poignant story,” which the original game reveals in its final moments. Fans who played the 2013 title can probably infer that the new scene will appear before the remake’s rendition of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag‘s final mission. The newly announced “A World Without Gold” chapter sounds like the most likely place for it.

How far the ending changes will go remains unclear, though Ubisoft has repeatedly indicated that the remake will preserve the original game’s main narrative beats. Its approach to gameplay appears similar: Ubisoft has expanded and remixed the original map with new material while reshuffling some existing content, including collectibles. For example, while playing Ubisoft’s recent hands-on demo of Black Flag Resynced, Totilo found the Tabulae Rudolphinae book where the Voynich Manuscript appeared in the original Assassin’s Creed 4. Both collectibles were already present in the 2013 game, but in different locations. Other takeaways from the demo include a shanty selector, whereas the original only allowed songs to be skipped; a rescue mission that rewards completion with a recruitable crewmember, Lucy Baldwin, who can boost the ship’s damage-bracing defenses; and 15 collectible messages referencing a mysterious faction called “The Watchers.”
