Survival game Smalland: Survive the Wilds, which saw numerous comparisons to Xbox’s Grounded upon its reveal, is set to hit the Nintendo Switch 2 this Spring. In just under a year after its initial release, the Switch 2 became Nintendo’s fastest-selling system and has maintained its success, surpassing 17 million units sold by the end of 2025. It has also been home to a variety of exciting first-party titles, including Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza, with exciting additions like Yoshi and the Mysterious Book and Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave arriving later this year.
The Switch 2 has also become an incredible home for third-party titles and indie games, as Nintendo has strengthened its relationships with developers and publishers for this console. Nintendo has revealed that the Switch 2 had the largest third-party software lineup for a new Nintendo system, and the publisher has continued to give third-parties their shine with Nintendo Direct Partner Showcases. With big games like 007 First Light and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth set to arrive on the Switch 2 in the coming months, Nintendo is continuing to offer its fans plenty of options beyond its typically strong first-party lineup.

Smalland: Survive the Wilds Hits Switch 2 In Spring 2026
Publisher Maximum Entertainment has confirmed that its open-world survival game, Smalland: Survive the Wilds, will be released on the Nintendo Switch 2 in the Spring. This announcement was accompanied by a new trailer for the 2024 game, giving new players an idea of what to expect out of Smalland‘s survival gameplay. The trailer showcases the game’s “Smallfolk” characters as they traverse the massive trees of Smalland, battle against insects, and build massive encampments.
While players can take on the adventure solo, Smalland: Survive the Wilds will also support cooperative multiplayer with up to nine friends online. The trailer doesn’t showcase anything truly unique to the Switch 2 version. However, Maximum Entertainment did confirm that this new release will include all post-launch content already released on other platforms. This includes the game’s major 2025 content release, The Underlands, a free update that featured subterranean exploration, new enemies, and magic-based item crafting.
Smalland: Survive the Wilds brings some low-stakes survival gameplay to the Switch 2, and its arrival on Nintendo’s platform is a great way to expand its audience. Much like its predecessor, the Nintendo Switch 2 has become a haven for comfortable games and fun multiplayer experiences. A game like Smalland: Survive the Wilds feels like a natural fit for Nintendo’s hybrid machine, and with plenty of content to offer players, a Switch 2 release will let players experience it at home or on the go.
Admittedly, Smalland: Survive the Wilds does exist in a pretty crowded market of survival games, even on Nintendo’s platform. Alongside Grounded, which is currently available on the Nintendo Switch, Smalland: Survive the Wilds has been compared to survival games such as Ark: Survival Evolved and Valheim, the former of which is out on the Switch and the latter of which is scheduled to release on the Switch 2 this year. Here’s hoping Smalland: Survive the Wilds can carve out its own niche on Nintendo’s platform and see a meaningful growth in its playerbase.
