Upcoming FromSoftware Switch 2 Exclusive Game Still Releasing This Year

FromSoftware owner Kadokawa has just offered an exciting update on the developer’s upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, The Duskbloods. Arriving on a wave of hype following years of rumors and anticipation, the Nintendo Switch 2 brought with it the promise of major hardware improvements, with major resolution and performance upgrades compared to its predecessor, making it an even more capable system. The system also offers mouse controls with the Joy-Con 2 controllers, adding a PC gaming element to a platform that already blends the worlds of console and handheld systems.

Since its release last June, the Nintendo Switch 2 has become the fastest-selling system in Nintendo’s storied history. The publisher has continued to support it with a steady diet of exciting first-party titles, such as Donkey Kong Bananza and Kirby Air Riders, with games like Yoshi and the Mysterious Book and Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave set to bulk up the lineup even further later this year. Nintendo has also stacked the system with plenty of third-party support, with the publisher reporting that the Switch 2 features the largest third-party launch lineup of its systems.

The Duskbloods is FromSoftware’s big 2026 release, and while it boasts some serious Bloodborne vibes, it’s shaping up to be quite unique overall.

In its latest earnings report, FromSoftware owner Kadokawa has reiterated that The Duskbloods will still be releasing at some point this year. The conglomerate said, “FromSoftware currently has multiple titles in the development pipeline, including Elden Ring Tarnished Edition and The Duskbloods (both slated for a 2026 release for Nintendo Switch 2).” Kadokawa also reconfirmed that the game will be a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, being jointly distributed by FromSoftware and Nintendo.

In the aforementioned quote, Kadokawa also reiterated that Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, the Nintendo Switch 2 port of the 2022 Game of the Year winner at The Game Awards, is still in development. While the game was set to arrive on Nintendo’s console last year, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition was delayed to 2026 to allow for improvements to the game’s overall performance. Kadokawa’s earnings report confirms that not only is the project still in the works, but it is well on its way to release later this year.

Kadokawa’s reiteration of The Duskbloods’ continued development is a great sign for a game that Nintendo and FromSoftware have been quiet on as of late. After being announced at the initial Nintendo Switch 2 Direct last April, gamers have not gotten to see The Duskbloods since, and it even failed to make an appearance at the latest Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase this month. The announcement that the game is still on track to release later this year is an encouraging sign that gamers may finally get to see the project in action within the next few months.

Alongside the news regarding The Duskbloods, the re-confirmation of Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition’s release on the Switch 2 is exciting news, considering the extended wait for its release. Like The Duskbloods, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition was announced early on at the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, but it hasn’t been seen since and also skipped the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase. The addition of these two FromSoftware titles will only help add to what’s becoming a stacked lineup of partner-developed titles on the Nintendo Switch 2.
