Open-world monster-taming games have become one of the most interesting ways for developers to expand on the Pokemon formula. While catching and battling creatures remains the core appeal, newer games have started giving players larger worlds to explore, more freedom in how they build and use their teams, and more ways to connect with the monsters they discover along the way. That shift has opened the door for games like Nexomon to become more of their own thing and not just an alternative to classic Pokemon games (even as Pokemon games embrace open-world structures).

Now, the recently revealed Nexomon 3 is introducing a beautiful and massive 3D open world filled with hundreds of creatures, a true RPG quest system, and combat mechanics focused on exploration. It’s a completely different direction from Pokemon Winds and Waves‘ open world and more akin to a traditional open-world RPG. Just like any good Pokemon game, though, Nexomon has Starters for fans to choose from, with developer VEWO Interactive revealing 3 of the 4 coming to the RPG.

Nexomon Features 4 Starters, But Reveals 3: Reptuff, Snarkit, and Pacifuzzy

Nexomon 3 has revealed the first 3 Starter players will choose from at the beginning of their journey: Reptuff, Snarkit, and Pacifuzzy. Similar to picking a Starter Pokemon, these creatures will serve as players’ first combat and exploration partners, but Nexomon 3 is adding a twist with dual elemental affinities and branched evolutions that can change how each starter develops from thereon. Each Starter begins with two dominant elements, allowing players to decide which affinity they want to focus on as their Nexomon evolves.

The first Nexomon evolution will introduce branching paths, with one element becoming more developed while the other remains part of the creature’s identity. In Reptuff’s case, it’s between Fire-type and Electric-Type; in Snarkit’s case, it’s between Water and Wind-Type (assuming it’s a new symbol for Wind, not the introduction of Nexomon 2’s cut Ice type); and for Pacifuzzy, it’s between Plant and Mineral-type. The developers are also considering expanding the system further by adding a possible 3rd affinity option, giving players even more control over team-building, but otherwise fans should expect business as usual from Nexomon‘s creature Types. The 4th Starter remains hidden for reasons unknown.

Nexomon 3 is also more serious than Pokemon stories typically are, with it once again being more like an open-world RPG story, generally speaking. In short, Nexomon 3 follows a bloodline of seers, clairvoyants, and oracles whose abilities were once believed to be the result of a curse, only for a much darker truth to begin emerging.

Nexomon 3 is still shaping up to be a major step forward for the monster-taming series. The combination of an open world, customizable evolutions, and Starter creatures with multiple development paths gives it a chance to appeal to players who enjoy the Pokemon formula but want something with a different identity. Reptuff, Snarkit, and Pacifuzzy are only the first look at what’s waiting in the Aurelian continent, but they already show that Nexomon 3 is aiming to give players more choices from the very start.
