Valve Officially Starts Shipping First Steam Controller Orders in 20+ Countries

Valve is now shipping the first orders for the Steam Controller, according to thousands of consumer testimonies all over social media. Based on the initial wave of reports, some of the orders in at least 22 of the 32 countries where Valve officially sells the device have already cleared the packaging stage.

The second-generation Steam Controller was announced in November 2025, two days after the tenth anniversary of Valve’s first dedicated PC gamepad reaching the market. It went on sale through Valve’s storefront on May 4, officially at 10 a.m. PT, though many fans reported completing their orders as early as 9:58 a.m. PT. The Steam Controller sold out within a couple of hours, even with Valve releasing inventory in waves, which caused it to alternate between being listed as “in stock” and “out of stock” throughout that hectic launch period.

Valve Issues Statement on Steam Deck 2

A senior Valve official offers an update on the Steam Deck 2, which the company confirmed was part of its long-term plans years ago.

The First Steam Controller Order Has Already Arrived, With Many More on the Way

Two days after the Steam Controller’s release, some early adopters were already reporting that they have received their units. Corroborating social media reports identified by GameRant indicate that only select customers in California had received the much-anticipated device as of May 6. Consumers in 21 other countries have also reported seeing the shipping status of their orders clear the “Packaged items” step. That figure accounts for roughly two-thirds of the 32 countries where the Steam Controller is officially offered.

Buyers in 11 countries have reported that their orders are now at the third stage, “Picked up by carrier.” Some users in the United States, Germany, Spain, Poland, and Lithuania have also reached the fourth stage, in which their orders were assigned shipment tracking numbers, indicating they are in transit or about to be shipped. Valve thus appears on track to meet its original estimate that the first wave of shipments would arrive between May 7 and May 11, depending on the region.

The list is based on community reports compiled as of May 6 and may be incomplete. Order placement time appears to be the main factor determining processing order.

Valve said on May 5 that its initial Steam Controller inventory ran out faster than expected. The company confirmed it is working to restock the device and promised to share an updated availability timeline “soon.”

Launch-day orders for the trackpad-equipped gamepad were limited to two per customer. Despite that limitation, some scalpers are already trying to flip their confirmed orders for the Steam Controller at aggressive markups. As always, consumers are encouraged not to buy from resellers in order to limit incentives for such listings in the future, especially since Valve is working on restocking the device as soon as possible.
