Veronica Remake’s Changes Will Make it a Whole New Game (But With No Cuts)

Veronica Remake’s Changes Will Make it a Whole New Game (But With No Cuts)

Capcom has set a high standard for its Resident Evil remakes, and the upcoming Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake will be “heavily remixed,” so much so that it will feel like a brand new game. That doesn’t mean, however, that anything in the original Resident Evil Code: Veronica is being cut, as the keyword there is remixed.

With the recent release of Resident Evil Requiem, many fans are no doubt curious about the future of the franchise, and it comes as no surprise that Capcom is keeping the remake train going. Resident Evil Requiem is slated to get DLC, of course, but once the dust is settled on it, fans can reportedly look forward to a Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake in 2027 and a Resident Evil 0 remake in 2028.

Resident Evil Requiem Trick Makes No-Heal Runs Way Easier

This simple trick makes no-heal runs in Resident Evil Requiem way easier, allowing players to complete a key challenge much faster.

Reported Changes in Resident Evil Code: Veronica Remake

Well ahead of then, leaker Dusk Golem has commented on how Capcom is approaching the Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake. It’s important to note that Dusk Golem has a history of accurate Resident Evil leaks, being the first figure to confirm that Leon Kennedy would be playable in Resident Evil Requiem. Golem explained that the RECV remake would be “heavily remixed,” but every bit of content will be there and expanded. Nothing will be cut from the story or gameplay, despite extensive changes.

He explained that it is the Resident Evil remake with the most changes, saying things may happen differently than you remember, but that everything (every enemy, location, and event) is there and expanded. This doesn’t just apply to Claire; it also applies to her brother, Chris. Capcom is aware, according to Dusk Golem, that this is young Chris’s first appearance in the RE Engine remakes, so his sections will be expanded just like his sister’s. That said, Chris’s section will end sooner than it did in the original game and will have a proper boss fight against Wesker. That reportedly leaves Claire to deal with the main antagonist Alexia Ashford.

While it remains to be seen how extensive these changes are in practice, it sounds fantastic. Previously, Dusk Golem also claimed that there’s a ton of internal faith in the project, and he would not be surprised if the Code Veronica remake outdid Resident Evil: Requiem‘s reviews. Given the number of 10/10s it received, such a claim sets some really high expectations, but fans will just have to wait and see if the game can live up to it.

Why No Cuts in Code: Veronica Remake is a Big Deal

resident evil code veronica gameplay.

Resident Evil Code: Veronica has plenty that could, theoretically, be cut, but that’s not the approach here. Remixing is the better approach, but not cutting anything (at least significantly) is likely based on fan reception. While Resident Evil 2 reworked both scenarios to a degree and Resident Evil 4 was trimmed (to a smaller degree), Resident Evil 3 made the most changes (read: a ton of cuts). Entire areas like the Clock Tower were cut from the Resident Evil 3 remake, and while the game is good, it is arguably the worst remake. It is perhaps a bump, however small, in Capcom’s generational run since the release of RE7.

Based on these claims, it sounds like Resident Evil Code: Veronica could replace RE3 as the remake with the most changes, but with a focus on remixing instead of cutting, it’s understandable why there’d be a lot of internal faith.
