Warlock Is Diablo's Newest Class, And It's Coming To (Almost) Every Diablo Game

Diablo’s newest class is the Warlock, and it won’t be confined to a single game in Blizzard’s ARPG franchise. Instead, different flavors of the Warlock will come to all three current Diablo games: Diablo 2: Resurrected, Diablo Immortal, and Diablo 4.

Announced during Blizzard’s Diablo 30th Anniversary Spotlight, the demonic spellcaster will first arrive in Diablo 2: Resurrected today as part of the game’s Reign of the Warlock DLC, one that also introduces new endgame challenges and long-requested quality-of-life features.

In Diablo 2, the Warlock will be able to summon three different demons–the Goatman, the Tainted, and the Defiler–as well as bind demons to their will. The Warlock can then sacrifice the demon to absorb their lifeforce and gain temporary buffs based on the demon consumed.

Diablo 4 will be the next game in the series to receive the Warlock, where it will join the Paladin as part of the upcoming Lord of Hatred expansion in April. Blizzard is keeping details about Diablo 4’s Warlock close to its chest for now (it will share more during a developer update on March 5), but it described the class as one defined by “metal chains, flames, and destructive power that turn the wrath of Hell against itself.”

Lastly, Blizzard’s free-to-play mobile spin-off Diablo Immortal is also receiving the Warlock. Coming sometime this summer, Diablo Immortal’s Warlock will revolve around the use of the demonic Soulgorger, a beast that is powered by devouring other demons. This version of the Warlock will wield a skull in one hand and a sacrificial blade in the other, allowing them to slash holes in reality, summon demons, and spew fire at enemies.

Warlock may have been the star of the show, but there was plenty of other Diablo news to come out of the spotlight. The endgames of Diablo 2: Resurrected and Diablo 4 are set for major shakeups, with Diablo 2’s Terror Zones introducing new boss encounters and Diablo 4 set to overhaul its existing structure with its new War Plans system, one that will allow players to level-up their preferred activities and customize their rewards.

Diablo 2: Resurrected’s Reign of the Warlock DLC will be live today. Diablo 4’s Lord of Hatred expansion, and the arrival of the Warlock, is slated for April 28, while the year ahead in Diablo Immortal will see players return to Diablo 2’s Lut Gholein to face off against Andariel.
