After confirming a Carry Forward feature for Call of Duty: Warzone, Activision backtracks on one of the included elements to it once Modern Warfare 4 launches in October. It’s a time of change for Call of Duty: Warzone with Modern Warfare 4 on the horizon. Activision continues to reveal what players can expect once the new game launches, though one particular feature is leaving one aspect behind.
Just recently, Activision confirmed a couple of big features for the upcoming Call of Duty launch. One of the more highly requested features is finally confirmed as Call of Duty: Warzone has an Operator Skin toggle, which goes live with Season 1 in Modern Warfare 4. When enabled, it’ll make it so that the player only sees Modern Warfare 4 operator skins in Warzone instead of a skin equipped from a previous game. For those who don’t want to see Nicki Minaj or any of the more outlandish outfits, they’ll now be able to essentially turn them off. The post also confirmed the Carry Forward system making a return, but it seems like Activision made a mistake in its initial announcement of the mechanic.
Call of Duty: Warzone Won’t Carry Forward Legacy Weapon Camos
On September 24, Activision revealed the plans for a new Carry Forward system for Call of Duty: Warzone once Modern Warfare 4 launches. The blog laid out everything that fans can expect to see, from operator skins, to legacy weapons. However, the blog post was later updated with a correction, apologizing for wrongly stating that Weapon Camos earned from legacy games would continue to be available during Modern Warfare 4‘s first season. As it turns out, this isn’t the case, meaning that players won’t be able to equip their previously unlocked camos for weapons that are returning from previous games.

The backtrack has left many fans frustrated, with some players actively wondering what the point of grinding camos is if they’re not ultimately going to carry forward. Some called the process pointless, while others lamented that some of the more rare Call of Duty weapon camos are essentially locked out now. At this point in time, only Operators, Skins, and Weapon Blueprints from Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3, Black Ops 6, and Black Ops 7 are still confirmed to be available through the Call of Duty Carry Forward system.

For those playing on Xbox, Activision previously revealed a special pre-order bonus that may take the sting out of some of the missing weapon camos. While all Modern Warfare 4 players get access to the Inner Circuit M4 Blueprint, Xbox players can get a special variant of it that features a translucent OG green skin. The design fits right in with the other Xbox Anniversary products, including the previously revealed Xbox Series X special edition, controller, and accessories. The weapon skin will let players see the inner workings of the gun, just with a translucent green hue over it.
Cosmetics continues to be a big point of debate as Infinity Ward previously clarified that Modern Warfare 4 will have grounded cosmetics and collaborations that made sense. What isn’t known is if this just extends to operator skins, or other parts of the game as well, such as weapon cosmetics. The Call of Duty franchise is well known for pushing the boundaries on cosmetics, especially some of the more outlandish weapon camos. The studio continues to indicate that player feedback is important for helping to guide the team, so it’s possible that things could evolve down the road as well.
