Warzone’s Black Ops Royale Mode Finally Adds Highly Requested Feature

Raven Software reveals that the highly requested solo queue is finally being added to Call of Duty Warzone‘s Black Ops Royale mode, but there is one thing to keep in mind before jumping in. Although Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 didn’t have the typical sales impact the franchise usually does, Activision and its development studios have continued to plug away at the experience through new updates and seasonal content. In particular, Season 2 has seemingly generated a bit of momentum for the shooter, with Call of Duty: Warzone also launching a highly anticipated game mode.

Although Warzone‘s Black Ops Royale mode was originally announced during Call of Duty Next back in 2025, the mode finally launched in full with the Season 2 Reloaded update earlier this month. The mode itself is a modernized take on the classic Blackout game mode introduced in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, removing many of the standard Warzone features, such as the Gulag, Buy Stations, and Loadouts, in favor of players having to scavenge for everything while staying alive. Although Blackout would eventually be replaced by Call of Duty: Warzone, fans have been feeling nostalgic for a return to the older mode and with Season 2 Reloaded, they finally got their wish.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Gets New Update for March 2026

Activision releases a new update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, making new adjustments to the game and bringing major changes to Ranked Play.

Call of Duty Warzone Black Ops Royale Adds a Solo Queue

However, one of the big sticking points is why Black Ops Royale didn’t launch with a solo queue, only featuring Quads matchmaking. The realization has irritated many players, though it seems the continued feedback has finally pushed Raven Software to address it head on. A week after Black Ops Royale officially launched, Raven is finally adding a solo queue for those who’d rather go it alone, with the new matchmaking queue going live at 10am PT/1pm ET in Call of Duty Warzone. The update will add a public playlist as well as private match options.

It’s worth noting that Raven Software also jumped into the conversation with a reminder for players before jumping in. As the studio indicated previously, Black Ops Royale was designed and balanced for teams of 4 players, hence why it launched only with a Quads option for matchmaking. Despite the feedback from players regarding a dedicated Solo option, the gameplay of Black Ops Royale hasn’t been fully tuned for solo players yet, though the studio does plan to continue improving and tweaking the mode over time. Many comments under the post were of fans just happy that the solos option was released so soon, rather than the studio continuing to collect data and make tweaks first.

While many fans have embraced the return of a Blackout-style mode to Call of Duty, it hasn’t been a perfect experience. For one, the original mode took place on a completely different map, with Black Ops 7 players jumping into the expansive region called Avalon. In fact, many fans have called Avalon much bigger than the original Blackout map, and due to the size, some have found Black Ops Royale to be a bit boring. Many Call of Duty players have called for Black Ops Royale to expand its lobby size from 100 to 150 players to increase the action. However, not everyone seems to agree that the mode should play more like Warzone, as they believe that Black Ops Royale should be slower and offer a different experience from what’s already in the game.

For those who have tired of Warzone‘s gameplay and were seeking something fresh, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7‘s Season 2 Reloaded update has seemingly provided a bit of fresh air. In addition to Black Ops Royale, the update added substantial content to the other areas of the game, with Paradox Junction map for Zombies players, new Endgame features for PvE fans, and of course, new weapons, modes, and maps for PvP players. The update is also making a big change to Ranked Play, with a end of the season tweak that aims to not only make it more competitive, but rewarding as well.
