Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth covered a huge amount of narrative ground, as it helped to bridge the gap between the events of its predecessor, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and the trilogy’s inevitable conclusion. It isn’t yet known if developer Square Enix is planning to release DLC for the critically acclaimed RPG, but if it does choose to do so, there are a couple of logical routes this could take. Just like how Remake‘s Intergrade DLC expanded on the story and introduced a new playable character, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth‘s expansion could follow suit, giving players the chance to play as a couple of familiar faces for the first time in this new, expanded world of Final Fantasy 7.
During the events of FF7 Rebirth, Cloud, Tifa, Barrett, Aerith, and Red XIII make a number of new and important friends. For those who played the original 1997 game, the introduction of Yuffie, Cait Sith, Vincent Valentine, and Cid Highwind would likely have been a welcome hit of nostalgia. The latter two, however, had to make do with non-playable roles, with both highly likely to feature much more prominently in the third and final part of the trilogy, whenever it is released. It would make logical sense for any planned DLC for FF7Rebirth to be focused on either Vincent, Cid, or maybe even both.
The Importance of ‘Loveless’ in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Explained
Loveless is a recurring element of the Final Fantasy 7 saga, and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth makes great use of the play’s symbolism in the game’s plot.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s DLC Has Some Interesting Paths it Could Take
In many ways, a DLC focusing on Vincent Valentine feels like the obvious choice. Vincent is a cool, mysterious character with an intriguing backstory, and many players would have been hoping he was a playable character in Rebirth. His inclusion as both a non-playable character and a difficult boss encounter will have left many fans wanting more, and any DLC focused on him will be welcomed with open arms. At several points in the story, after he joins Cloud and his party, Vincent does not actively join them on their various missions, leaving plenty of room for a side story following him on his own separate quest. This could be focused on his relationship with Shinra, Sephiroth, or perhaps something else entirely.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth introduces Cid Highwind to the party as the happy-go-lucky pilot of the Tiny Bronco plane. He aids Cloud and the others by flying them to various destinations, even converting the Bronco into a seaplane after some mechanical difficulties. A fan-favorite in the original game, Cid only appears rather fleetingly during Rebirth‘s events, so a DLC focused on him could give players the chance to get to know him better. Given his aversion to Shinra and his skills as a mechanic and a pilot, he no doubt has plenty of interesting stories that an expansion could bring to life.
Rebirth’s DLC Has Plenty of Other Options
Cait Sith has never been one of Final Fantasy 7‘s most popular characters, and this is unlikely to change given his role in Rebirth. However, despite already giving him the spotlight for a small section towards the end of the game, there are plenty of gaps in his timeline that could be fleshed out with further DLC content, should Square Enix choose to do so. Then, of course, there’s Zack. Zack Fair’s role in Rebirth left plenty to the imagination, but on the whole, players probably didn’t get to spend as much time with this likable, popular character as they would’ve wanted to, and DLC could remedy this.
Given FF7 Rebirth‘s multiverse-oriented plot, an expansion focused on a version of Zack from a different universe would make sense, at least in the context of the rest of the game’s narrative. This Zack could have his own part to play in Cloud’s overarching story, one that Cloud and his friends may never even be aware of. It leaves the door open for plenty of options, and given that Cid and Vincent are also both vying for more screen time, Square Enix is certainly not short of choices when it comes to any potential Rebirth DLC.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is the second chapter of Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy. Once again, the story follows Cloud Strife and other members of Avalanche as they take on Shinra and Sephiroth, a mission that takes them out of Midgar.
