Following recent comments from Bethesda game director Todd Howard, Starfield is set to get some exciting updates in the very near future. As excitement for Starfield‘s upcoming DLC, Shattered Space, gets more intense, Todd Howard has promised that there are exciting things on the way for the developer’s sci-fi adventure.
Starfield was one of the most anticipated releases of last year, and although the game was a fun experience overall, it arguably didn’t provide the in-depth space exploration that many were hoping for. The general gameplay and world Bethesda brought with Starfield is exciting, but criticisms of the game feeling outdated and featuring barren planets with little intrigue also kept it from reaching its full potential. Many of these criticisms have been warranted, but upcoming updates may bring more excitement to Starfield.

Todd Howard Promises ‘Really Good Updates’ on Starfield’s Horizon
Todd Howard recently paid a visit to Kinda Funny to talk about the future of Starfield, and he hinted at some great things scheduled for the game. Not only did he give confirmation that the Shattered Space DLC would be launching sometime in the fall of this year, he also teased a huge update coming soon.
What Starfield’s Big Update Could Be
In the Kinda Funny interview, Todd Howard was very clear about things that Bethesda was aimed at updating throughout the year. From the game’s ship building to ironing out long-running kinks in the game’s system, Howard was quite open about Bethesda’s plans to improve Starfield through small patches as the release window for Shattered Space draws closer. However, he was tight-lipped when it came to the details of what the big upcoming update could be.
Revealing the Long-Awaited Creation Kit
Howard briefly touched on the long-requested Creation Kit that many fans have been waiting for. Bethesda has built a history of harboring a committed mod community, and the Creation Kit would finally allow Starfield to grow its own vibrant collective of modders. Although there wasn’t a release date given, he was sure to confirm that it was still on the way. Perhaps the big announcement could be an in-depth look into the anticipated Creation Kit. There have already been mods made for Starfield, but the Creation Kit would signal the birth of a developer-supported system to help players bring their ideas to life.
A Potential Overhaul to Maps
One of the biggest complaints since Starfield‘s release is that many of its maps feel barren. Whether exploring a far-off planet or a city that is supposed to be bustling, it just doesn’t quite stick the landing with its map content. This remains one of the most disappointing parts of Starfield‘s world. When comparing the game to another recent sci-fi RPG, Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red’s crowded Night City feels far more lived-in, even before the bugs were fixed. Howard briefly confirmed some changes to the maps, but it was unclear whether this had anything to do with the big update or not. “We redid the map stuff, so we have some city map stuff,” he said in classic discreet Todd Howard fashion.

Whatever this update happens to be, Todd Howard has made it sound pretty exciting. It’s a complete mystery when this update will be announced. However, the upcoming Xbox showcase in June could be the perfect time for Bethesda to drop some game-changing news for Starfield.
