Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil movie crushed it at the box office, banking more than $400 million globally to become the most successful entry in the series ever. When will the film be available to watch at home, though?
According to Fandango, the home video release is set for November 3. That’s apparently when people can buy the movie outright or rent it digitally, with a physical edition for Blu-ray coming at some point later. It will also presumably come to streaming at some point, and it should hit Netflix given the multi-billion-dollar Pay-1 deal the two companies have in place.
While we wait, Netflix just announced that director Paul W.S. Anderson’s original Resident Evil, along with its follow-up, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, are now available to stream.
They join the other Resident Evil movies already on Netflix, including Resident Evil: Afterlife, Resident Evil: Retribution, Resident Evil: Extinction, and Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. The 2022 Resident Evil TV show is also currently streaming on Netflix.
While the new Resident Evil movie may be coming to home video on November 3, it’s also staying in theaters. In fact, it was just announced that the movie is returning to IMAX and other premium large format (PLF) screens.
Cregger, who co-wrote and directed the new Resident Evil movie, recently discussed the backlash from the hardcore gamer community. He said he should have known better that fans of the games wouldn’t embrace him and his ideas. After the movie came out and got great reviews and made tons of money, Cregger said he felt “gratified.”
The filmmaker has said he has ideas for more Resident Evil movies, but he’s not going to pursue them; instead, he’s only going to make original, non-franchise movies going forward. His next movie, The Flood, is a sci-fi film starring Jennifer Lawrence.
