Witcher 3 Devs Answer My Biggest Concern About The Remaster

The Witcher 3 is getting upgraded again, because no matter how old a game gets, CD Projekt Red can’t seem to help itself from going back and adding fresh improvements. But a new version of The Witcher 3 could also be a headache for fans who have already invested hundreds of hours in existing saves and trophy/achievement hunting. Thankfully, The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt Remastered will carry all of that important stuff over to the newest version.

“We’ve seen your questions about The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered!” CDPR wrote on X today. “Good news: your current saves will work with the upgrade, so you can get back on the Path right where you left off. Your unlocked achievements and trophies will carry over too!”

This essentially confirmed that the remaster will be an upgrade to the existing PS5/Xbox Series X/S version of the game, rather than an entirely new edition. While this might seem obvious to newcomers, the distinction will matter a lot of fans who have already gone through the headache of switching versions once.

Dare i ask for a separate trophy list? I wanna platinum it again 👉👈

Back when The Witcher 3 got its “next-gen” upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2022, it functioned as a separate version of the game. While CDPR went to the effort of implementing a cloud save transfer function so that players could take their most recent save from the older version of the open-world RPG and port it to the newest one, it was still a complicated pain in the butt.

Worse was the fact that the “next-gen” version of the game didn’t auto-pop your existing trophies and achievements. They were separate sets that had to be unlocked all over again. This was essentially what derailed me from getting the platinum, since all of my progress on that front was on the PS4 version of the game.

Fortunately, no one will have to go through that heartbreak again and people like me will have every incentive to continue their “Death March!” difficulty completion run in the remastered version of The Witcher 3, releasing on September 29.
