The Witcher 3 Remastered has just received another post-launch update. Officially titled ‘Hotfix 5.01b’, this latest Witcher 3 Remastered update specifically targets a major issue affecting the Xbox Series S version of the game.
Released right at the end of last month, The Witcher 3 Remastered offers another sizable round of improvements to the acclaimed 2015 open-world fantasy RPG. These improvements include a refined combat system, a revamped skill tree, and a wealth of technical upgrades and new quality-of-life features. To many, this is the definitive way to play an already beloved game. But to some on select platforms, The Witcher 3 Remastered isn’t quite living up to expectations.
The Witcher 3 Remastered Releases Patch for Xbox Series S
Shortly following The Witcher 3 Remastered‘s launch on September 29, many Xbox Series S users started to report some severe technical shortcomings with the game’s new iteration. Most of these issues revolved around The Witcher 3 Remastered‘s visuals, which looked unintentionally blurry to many Xbox Series S users. Some users claimed that deleting the game and reinstalling it resolved the issue. That’s obviously not a very practical solution for those with shaky internet speeds, but it was the only one Xbox Series S users had. That is until today.
CD Projekt Red has officially released The Witcher 3 Remastered Hotfix 5.01b. This patch directly addresses The Witcher 3‘s image clarity issues on Xbox Series S, with CD Projekt Red switching the upscaling solution from TAAU to FSR to improve visual quality and performance, according to its recent social media post announcing the update. Due to the Xbox’s current ecosystem, this 5.01b hotfix is technically downloadable on Xbox Series X as well, though CD Projekt Red has confirmed that it will not change that version of the game at all.
Unfortunately, the Xbox Series S isn’t the only place where The Witcher 3 Remastered is/was having issues. PS5 users reported frequent crashes when playing specific missions in The Witcher 3 Remastered, along with some general hitching and other technical faults. Thankfully, CD Projekt Red deployed a hotfix targeting these platform-specific issues yesterday, and many PS5 owners have reported a much smoother and stable experience across the board since.
The Nintendo Switch 2 version of The Witcher 3 Remastered, however, is still suffering from some early hiccups. These Switch 2-specific issues include framerate drops, visual glitches, image quality issues, and more. But hope is on the horizon. When CD Projekt Red announced the recent PS5 Witcher 3 hotfix, it also confirmed that a Switch 2 patch is “on the way.” Though it might take some time, CD Projekt Red seems fully committed to ironing out every kink in The Witcher 3 Remastered, regardless of which platform it’s on.
